Anyone have a ToT party review?

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who was disappointed.
I went with my 6 and 10 year olds.

We got given ToT bags at the entrance but no maps, didn't know there were maps and wandered blind most of the evening, didn't even know what time the parades would be. Eventually I managed to get a map from a cleaner but by that time it was parade time and then the kids were exhausted so we headed on out.

The dance parties were great, loads of characters, but my two wouldn't dance. Apparantly there were craft stations, but I had no clue as I had no map.
Ride lines were shortish, but lots of rides weren't open.
Lots of characters and short lines to see them.
Not as much candy as I was expecting, one or two pieces from each station, and long lines to get them. Certainly didn't go anywhere near filling the bag, but I guess you could have if you'd done nothing but stand in line all night.
I think that if my kids had been fresh, rather than coming on the back of four fairly full days at the parks I might have felt differently, but overall I was fairly disappointed. I was asked in the park about doing a survey and I agreed, I've just done it online today with my feedback.

Oh man....this is out first trip to DL and this was suppose to be a surprise for the kids (the TOT party). Now I am worried. Guess if I don't have room in the luggage for their costumes it won't be the worst thing....guess I am glad I didn't hype this up for them...not that kids will be disappointed...but knowing how much I spent...I will be. Please...I need more positive reviews and tips! Where do you get maps? Anything to make sure we do? How do I make this fun for all of us?

Don't worry, you'll have a good time :cheer2:

I think the most upsetting thing was the parking situation, don't let our bad reviews ruin your vacation. Definitely ring your kids costumes, they're going to love it.

If you're driving there, I would arrive at least at 6 and kill some time around DTD, avoid the rush. If you're staying in a hotel nearby, you've got no worries. If you're not going on a Friday these things might not even be an issue.

Grab a map at the gate, they are in front of the person who takes your tickets to go into the park. If you don't see them, ask the person who took your tickets where they are. They are literally attached to the scanning booth.

We've been the past three years and going this year too, next Thursday. Although this will be our first time parking for the event. Guess we'll plan on being there an hour early. I don't remember any rides being closed last year for this. Which rides were closed? How long was the Soarin' line during the night?

can anybody tell me where the characters from Peter Pan were at? and which characters?????

We went.. the kids had a blast..my dd loved dancing with the creatures.. the candy was unimpressive..we ended up tossing it, since it was mainly chocking hazards for my 2yr old.. some places gave out carrots, which my dd yelled NOT CARROTS!! lol..she only gets candy on holidays or speacial times so was really looking forward to candy.but she did eat the carrots..which we tossed and got them ice cream treats instead.. lines were long.. we waited almost an hour for mickey n minnie.. passed the princess line because we wanted to see other stuff besides lines.. next year we will have a better plan, the kids danced a lot. dd thought that was the best part..the scarecrows were funny...we ended up getting inline at 645..tey let us in a little after 7 to hang out in the cneter area.. we left aroun 1015..I have 2 little ones who were done, dd coul,d have gone longer, but ds crashed in the stroller,,on the wya out they were filling up the bags of candy for people if you asked..the exit to GCH was closed, we and at least 20 others found this out the hard way,...

next year we will rest even longer to go.. we had been in the room from 130-530 then walkd dtd for a bit than went in.

but they had a ton of creatures out and that was fun for the kids!! I got a map, but barely used it..

Did anybody see the dried apples this year as something instead of sweets??? Was it really carrots gaaaaaak :upsidedow please tell me they had the dried apples this year.....please?!?

we did not get any apples..just carrots..in little baggies lol.. they were real carrots..

Are they handing out any Ghiradelli this year?

I've only been to WDW's party (last year) which was fun. I thought we got a pretty good mix of candy (the good stuff and the cheap), but I'm going to ToT this year and was wondering about the candy. Is there at least some chocolate (Snickers, Milky Way, etc.)? My mom will complain if all she gets is things like Nerds and gummy candy. ;) She got ticked at MNSSHP when they kept giving me stuff like 3 Musketeers and she would keep getting gummy hot dogs. Charlie Brown's "I got a rock." comes to mind whenever I think of that event.

yes we saw 2 places were they were handing out ghiradlli squares..they only gave 2 pieces per person..the majority was the non choclate candy..the ones we got had caramel in them.. I was hoping for more chocolate..but nope.. it was the cheap stuff..

We went tonight and the selections were raisins, craisins, fruit leather, cheezits, carrots, and apples along with the regular candy selections. Just not much chocolate :(
We have 3 very stuffed bags of candy! It's way more than we can or should eat lol!
The character lines were long and we only stopped for Handy Manny for DGD1
the rides were so easy to get on and we rode screamin, and ToT twice. By 9pm the line for TSMM was pretty long so we skipped it. It was a lot of fun though and I think we will go again next year :)

We are from New Zealand and thought it would be a novel experience for the children. Now that we are at home again, the Trick or Treat Party has not been mentioned by either child when they are asked what they most enjoyed about their time at Disneyland. They had a good time in the area where the dancing was going on, but lost interest in queuing up to collect candy after the first few lines. When they saw Mulholland's Madness was open they didn't want to do anything else. That ride is always one of the first to be named as one of their favourites.
Maybe it is just that Halloween is not something we have grown up with, and I am not trying to put down other people's enjoyment, but none of the three adults in our group will remember the night as a highlight of our visit.

LulusApple, what was your candy collecting secret? We came away with 1/2 full bags after what felt like way too much time in candy lines!

We started on the right by soarin and didn't do anything except collect candy for the first hour and a half. I remembered reading here that lines were long and candy sparce on previous dates. So I was determined to hit all the stations. At 8 we started riding rides. I noticed around 9 pm all the lines for candy and rides getting longer. It looked to me that most people were heading for pacific wharf and captain Jack along with other characters first. The character lines were long from the beginnng. We only stopped for one. Then we went around again to all the stations again! Lol

LulusApple, sounds like a fun night. Thanks for sharing! Do you remember about how long the line for Soarin' or Toy Story were and if the lines went down later in the evening or just got worse? Trying to figure out when would be best to ride them, was thinking about doing Toy Story first, then trick or treating on the way back over to Soarin'. I'm assuming you can't get fast passes during the party, right?

from what we saw last night the lines were zero for everything until 7:30 then they started to build. By 8/830 they were still low but looking like 10 minutes. By 9 o'clock the lines for TSMM looked like a regular crowded day! Yikes
ETA: they were issuing baby swap passes at screamin we used them but did not need them at all. If I did it again I would ride rides first then get candy later, although lines for everything candy rides and characters got longer as the night went on
