We haven't bought a mattress in 20 years and are just beginning to look. We went to mattress firm yesterday and saw a Contour Elite Breeze split king. Imagine my surprise at thr $7000 price tag just for the mattress. I came home and read a bunch of reviews ranging from sagging and mold to chemical odors. Others swear by the bed.

I don't know anyone that has one but for that kind of money I would expect it to hold up a very long time. Anyone with personal experience?

Hi Marcie.

We went to mattress firm
Do you have a ton of Mattress Firm stores there in Atlanta? I can't believe how many we have here in our area. There are about 12 of them within 5 miles of my house, 5 at one intersection of which 2 of them are in the same shopping strip. :confused3

:scared1: That is frightening!!!

Hi Dan,
It was comfortable but when they told me the price I almost fainted.

They are comfortable, just can't afford the price. I was looking into craigslist. I was thinking about buying just the top mattress for the bed. I know it may not be all peoples choice to do that, but I can't afford to buy new. I wish I could be of more help.

We just bought the Temperpedic Supreme Breeze is a split king with the Temper Ergo Premier Base and we LOVE it. We already have the Temperpedic Cloud that is not a split King with the Ergo base that we just bought 2 years ago and I was hating it because I like to raise the head of the mattress and my husband did not. Plus, I would wake up sweating in the middle of the night and that drove me nuts.
So, this time I insisted that if we had to get another Temperpedic that it had to be the split King. And it had to have the cool touch to it. They just delivered it 3 days ago and I have to say I have never slept better the last couple nights!

You will love the adjustable base as well. :)

We have a true Temperpedic. Bought it almost 10 years ago. At the time it was absolute top of the line (Grand Bed). Still love it to this day with no signs of wearing out. Actually it gets more comfy as time goes by as it never seems to stop breaking in.
I have found the "hot" mattress thing to be unfounded, but that's just me.

Oh wow, we have a Tempurpedic about 7 years old but no special base or anything - it was about $2,800 for a California King. We prefer firm mattresses so we picked the firmest one they had - can't recall the name.

We've had a Tempur-Pedic for almost 15 years. The price for a new one is a bit :crazy2: but I don't sleep well on any other mattress.

Mattress Firm had a wireless L and P split base for 50% off so about 800. That's the main thing we want so one or the other can sit up and read while the other is flat. Most adjustables have memory foam or latex. This is much more complicated than last time we bought a mattress.

We love ours! We have the Rhapsody - bought it in like 2008 or something. Took us a bit to break it in, but the kids were much younger then so they happily walked/jumped on it for hours for us!

I remember having to get it replaced about 5 years ago because it started sagging in the middle. The replacement one had a strong odor from the moment it was delivered and Tempurpedic replaced that one with no issue. It was an odd, chemical smell...so weird!

We haven't had any issue with our newest one; love it to pieces!

You bought one in 2008 and replaced it in 2011? It only lasted three years?? And then you bought the same brand again after the first one only lasted such a short period of time? Am I understanding that correctly?

Yup! And the reason why is because I feel like there is always the chance that a mattress is a dud. It came with a 10-year warranty so we felt like they stood behind their product and they really do! We didn't feel like it should be sagging after just 3 years and they completely agreed. No issue whatsoever getting a replacement.

Ohhh! I did misunderstand. I thought you had to buy a new one after only three years. They replaced it for free. That makes total sense. I'm glad they stood behind their product. Sorry I misunderstood.

I bought one years ago and sent it back after 1 month. It got too hot. Besides the heat I could not get comfortable on it. I know some people swear by them but for the life of me I could not figure out the appeal.

That was years ago though. I know they've come out with new technology. Maybe they don't sleep hot anymore. I'd say try to find a place that will let you test it out.

I gave an irrational fear of memory foam. I sleep on my stomach and I imagine mh face sinking into the foam and smothering me (hey. I said it was irrational).

The upside/downside of memory foam is that there is zero bounce. Good if your bed mate tosses and turns. Bad for other activities that can benefit from some bounce...cough. Like jumping on the bed, clearly.
