Anyone have a son with BIG FEET???

We know how you feel! Our son is 14 and is moving into a 15E now. Last year the school threw us a curve saying the kids could only wear all black sneakers to school, no exceptions! We argued with the school principal that is was IMPOSSIBLE to find an only all black sneaker anywhere near here that was a 14E. She kept arguing oh it is possible. Until she actually went out to find some herself after we complained to the school district superintendent! rofl!

We finally found him a pair at Walmart of all places that was all black but actually was work sneakers, they had a steel toe! lol The kids didn't stay around his feet trying to get into trouble. lol

After our complaint last year to the superintendent we noticed they are giving the kids the choice of all white or black this upcoming school year.

DS's feet have been big since birth.DGamma crotcheted (sp?) him some booties and he never got to wear them because his feet were already too big for them when he was born. It's like looking at a puppy and seeing these HUGE paws and knowing that when they are an adult they are going to be ginormous.:rotfl:

I hear ya, my friend saw Cam when he was a newborn and said "You can always tell the size of the puppy by the size of their paws" :scared1:

I think one of the first things that came out of my FIL's mouth when he saw DS was "Holy CRAP! Look at the size of those FEET!":rotfl:

Well, lots of folks have a bright future stomping out forest fires....

:)

No, but personally, I, myself, have to buy my shoes in the small kayak section of the store.

ok just between us girls here,

Have you ever read the "Dawn Treader" in the Narnian series?

They have a Monopod character that the Narnian kids think are actually mushrooms because they lay on their back with their feet in the air covering their bodies in case it rained. they look like a mushroom because their feet (foot?) are so big.

I saw DS laying like that one day and that was the first thing that popped into my head. OMG he is a monopod!

My son and I just finished reading the book together! I need to tell him this--he'll get a kick out of it! Especially since he's ten and already wears a men's size 10 shoe!! (He won't be 11 until March--we may hit the 11's before his birthday!!)

Yup. And you know what they say about men with big feet..."big SHOES!" I always love that joke. :)

Order online. I like shoes.com

But many shoe stores carry the bigger shoes. :)

When my son was born, the doctor said "It's a boy!" and the nurse said "Look at the size of those hands!!" :rotfl2:

His first walking shoes (bought at about 12 months of age) were a size 5 EEE. Last summer, when he was 13, he went from a size 11 to an 11½ in about 4 weeks time. And he just keeps growing....

What's kind of funny is his younger brother, who will be 11 in September, is in a size 6 wide...and has been for a full year now. :confused3 I do remember my older son going through a stage where his feet didn't grow for a while, but I don't remember if it was for that long...

I'm loving all these stories here cuz we've been dealing with hard-to-buy-for kids for a while now...DS14 as he's gone through 11s to 12s to 13s (all in extra wides) and DS10 who is in a 6 wide - and no kids' stores carry 6 wides and mens' shoes rarely come in a 6 wide.

We had to get black dress shoes for DS10 back in April. We looked at 18 stores before we finally found ones we could buy. We did actually find some lovely 6 wides black dress shoes at Nordstrom (store number 15, I think?) but they were $174. The salesman brought them out and slipped them on his feet and I asked how much they were and he said "$174" and I said "Get those shoes off his feet!!!!!!!!!!" It was good for a laugh though....

Anyway...good luck to all the parents of big-footed kids out there! I've bookmarked all the sites referred to here, for when we can't find anything locally.

I have some experience with Starbury's and Big Ben's(Ben Wallace's line of shoes at Steve and Barrys). My son-age 12, size 11.5, wide. They don't last as long and don't give him the support he needs without a gel insert when he's actually playing basketball. But he wears them for everyday and a little pickup on the playground. His friend, age 12, size 15(he's 6ft) wears them for everything. I've seen 15s at Foot Locker. Do you have one nearby?

Thanks for the info on the Big Bens, I saw them on eBay and wondered if they'd be okay. Great price, just concerned about the wear.

Foot Lockers ARE in Atlanta, I'll check them out.

I am sooooo cracking up at this thread... whodaTHUNK so many peoplle had the same problem with FEET??? I told my sister about it and she said what I thought, "then WHY don't the stores keep up??"

I used to work in shoes back when I was in college in the 70s and even back then the average woman's shoe was size 9 or 10. When we got in a shipment we'd get 2 size 5's, 4, size 6's, 10 size 7's, 5 size 8's, 4 size 9's and TWO size 10s... which were gone in the first half hour!!!

I think it's time again for the show buyers to look DOWN and see what's happening to our kid's feet!!! :scared1:

I wasn't thrilled on the wear of the Starbury's. I could not believe that my son wore through the ENTIRE sole in a week and a half. --you could see the seams of the shoes!

DH said the same thing. He said they couldn't keep the big sizes in stock.

My mom and uncle used to run a shoe store back in the 60s. She said that when ladies would complain about the shoes being too tight my uncle would take them in the back and put them on the "shoe stretcher". It always seemed to make the shoes feel better. Funny thing is.... the "shoe stretcher" was my uncle cramming his big foot in them and walking around in the back. :lmao:

Zappos is free shipping and free return...and they have the large sizes.

I'm curious whether the OP's son's feet continued to grow at the rate she mentioned. I guess he's 19 now. Wonder if he has size 19 feet!
