This is my first time posting on this board so please forgive me if this is a dumb question.

I'm a huge fan of the Disney pic of the day thread and they have some beautiful pics over there. Some of the firework and water pics make them look like they are smooth looking (the water and fireworks) and not grainy. I hope that makes sense. I was wondering if anyone is able to take pics like that with the cannon powershot A540? This is the camera I have and when I was looking for the manual last night all there is in the box is the spanish manual. So i've misplaced the english version and can't find it. I know in order to do this it has something to do with the shutter speed, which I just learned how to change so if anyone knows what speed it has to be on that would be great!! I hope this post makes sense haha Thanks a bunch for any help!

On this (and most of the Canons) you want to put it into Tv mode so you can slow down the shutter speed. You're best bet if you have the time is take it somewhere with water and look at the pictures as you slow down the shutter. Note, you may need a very steady hand or a tripod of some type to do this well.

Even a tabletop tripod would be good with this small of a camera (a couple of bucks at your local target/walmart/etc store.

Aww thank you so much! I will give that a try!

No problem... Another good way to play with this is to test the different speed and play with a sprinkler in the front yard. It will give you a pretty good idea how far ther water will go at different shutter speeds. Fast speed freeze the droplets.. slower will form streams.
