A friend of mine is looking into staying there for a week in Aug.

I want to know the good, the bad and the ugly.

How was the buffet breakfast?

Thanks for any and all advice...

I would have used the search but it brought up things from 5 years ago and was useless.

I ahven't stayed there, but all the rtooms have been romodeled,a dn it's supposed to be really nice. There's a link on Mousesavers where you stay 3 nights and get one free, but I don't knwo if it goes all the way to August or not. From the pics on Mary's site, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there at all! in fact, if I didn't have various things coming up that need my money more, I would have taken advantage of the free night offer.

EDIT: I just looked, and it is good for August. however, today's the last day to book! It also includes free breakfast. http://www.mousesavers.com/royalplaza.html Deal is at the bottom of the page.

I used to stay there a lot before the remodeling. It was my favorite non-Disney owned hotel on property. The rooms were very nice and the breakfast was a good buffet of items. The room with the whirlpool was a wonderful luxury. The bathrooms were usually huge in general. Several people could fit in them at once. I always stayed in the tower so I'm not sure about the outer rooms. The hotel was clean and the staff were great to deal with.

I haven't stayed there since the remodeling b/c the prices had increased so much when they first reopened. I know there are specials and I'll have to try them again sometime.

DD and I will be there next week. We were staying on property but with the Mouse-saver rate we saved enough money to pay for our October hotel stay.

We have stayed there before and liked it well enough. Not up to Disney standards but nice enough. The rooms are much larger than a moderate as are the bathrooms. There is valet parking available which is nice when you come back after a late night at the parks. The beds are very comfortable. You are also very close to Downtown Disney and there are some good chain restaurants close by.

On the other hand, the staff is not as friendly and accommodating as on property. Not really rude, just not as nice. You don't get the total Disney experience, no theming.

You cannot use EMH staying at Hotel Royal Plaza but we usually don't anyway. We used to, but I have found we do better to avoid the crowds. We can still close the parks, just another park which isn't having EMH but also is not so crowded. It works out.

We have always had a car so I can't help you with the bus service.

The Mouse-saver deal includes two paid breakfasts so maybe I can tell you more about food when we get back.

I hope I have helped at least a little. If you want, I can Tell you more when we return.

We also booked a room there for August for eight nights(eighth is also free). I have never stayed there, but just could not pass up that deal. It is saving us over $300 compared to POR, plus we get one more night, and the breakfasts. They also told me when I called that my two under 10yo. kids would eat free. We have to pay for the 14yo.

Lucyanna girl, please also let me know how your visit turns out.

Thank you,

Kevin

Kevin, I'll be sure and let you know. It's hard to pass up a deal like that, we are staying 8 nights and 2 are free. The total is less than half our room at CBR would have been!

We have packed swimsuits every trip and used them maybe twice. When we are in Orlando it is the parks we are interested in, not things we can do at home.

We've stayed at the RP quite a few times since our boys have grown, and really enjoyed it. It's even better since the remodel. We've always booked the Executive Suites, which have a seperate living room area, and are really spacious. The bathrooms are fantastic, too, with Jacuzzi tubs, large vanities, and separate showers.

We had friends in the standard rooms, and although those rooms were smaller, they were equally well-appointed.

The restaurant is usually very relaxing with good offerings on the menu. The one thing I haven't tried is their buffet breakfast because we aren't big breakfast eaters. We usually grab a piece of fruit, or a bran muffin, and are on our way.

The staff has always been helpful and friendly, and the location is terrific for walking to Downtown Disney. It's just a couple of blocks away on nice sidewalks covered in shade trees.

The bus service is good, though a bit longer of a ride then from the Disney resorts. Maybe 10-15 extra minutes, but each time we've been there the buses to and from the RP were the "Greyhound Bus Type" of a bus, with two very comfortable seats, so you hardly notice.

We love the RP. Here's how I recommend it.....if this is your first (or only) trip to DisneyWorld, and you can afford it, stay in a Disney resort. And especially if you have kids with you. You simply cannot beat the magic Disney offers, and a Disney resort will be a one-of-a-kind experience. But, if you need to budget, and can get one of RP's deals, you can't beat it for savings at a super nice hotel. It's also wonderful if your top priority is having a larger room for a great price.

Hope this helps.
