We finally get to go to WDW ( 7/10-7/15) and I looked on the weather channel and it looks like:

First, thunderstorms all week and second they don't really know where the tropical storm/hurricane Dennis will end up...

GREAT....
Hopefully we get some pixie dust coming our way :umbrella: :cloud9:

I am right there with you... I leave on the morning of the 12th and I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that the flight isn't delayed. I don't think that I could wait any longer to get back to the happiest place on earth!!!

July in orlando is always daily thunderstorms.....look at any guidebook and you'll see that's the case..
we go every year in July and every year there are daily thunderstorms....with unbelievably impressive lightening strikes...

It rained the whole time we were there in June. And most of the time it wasnt just an afternoon storm, it was all day lol. We had a great time, the kids fussed at first and then they figured out it was fun in the rain. They had their icky wet ponchos and DH and I had a dreaded umbrella lol.

I'm going next week and I'm not worried about rain-it keeps the crowds at bay!!!!! A hurricane is another matter...However, a hurricane at WDW is better than a hurricane at home!

I went with my mom and sister(27) July 2003 and it was gorgeous everyday with a big downpour every afternoon for about an hour/2 that cooled things off, sent folks home from the parks and then the sun came right out again and we enjoyed parks with smaller crowds for a bit.

It was great!!
Going back in 21 days!!!

Rain happens. (It rained all or part of 6 of the 10 days we were at WDW.) Prepare for it. Everyone talks about wearing ponchos, but think about what you and the others in your party like to wear in the rain. A raincoat? A poncho with a hood? Umbrellas? I prefered a ball cap to the hood of my poncho. If you're going the poncho route, buy the thicker ones...not the ones for under $1 that are like a dry cleaner bag.

Next, think about shoes...everyone MUST have at leat two pairs. One night we got caught in a storm at MGM that left all of our tennis shoes totally soaked.

Everyone thinks about summer showers feeling good on a hot day...but you're wet and you go on a ride or in a store or show or restaurant and the AC makes you freeze. So consider bringing a few outfits that give you more coverage than a tank top and shorts would.

If your clothes get totally soaked, remember that the resorts have laundries that have dryers. After the MGM soaking, I just put all of our clothes in the dryer for one cycle...better than trying to dry out soaking clothes all week.

Be flexible in your park choice (have a "plan B" for rainy days). IMHO, AK is a terrible park if it is raining much at all. Only Dinosoar, ITTBAB and the Lion King Show are inside. Everything else is outside. Also, Epcot World Showcase is pretty miserable in the rain. In contrast, Mk is great...there are so many rides close together. Epcot Futureworld would be pretty good in the rain, too. Some attractions are long, and there are multiple attractions in the same building.

Don't worry. Prepare. Have fun!!! (We got to be the first family on Dumbo one drizzly morning at MK...of course, our feet were in about 3 inches of water ;) )

Hmmmm...We're going July 15-22...I don't know about you all, but we're thrilled that rain is in the forecast. One of my favorite memories is our whole family skipping through the MGM parking lot during a huge storm singing Alanis Morrisette's "Ironic." Those were good times. :goodvibes:

But what's this about a hurricane? I hadn't heard anything about that yet, but we've been busy getting ready for the trip, so I haven't really paid enough attention! Once when we were at Disney there was a hurricane, and we were moved from the campgrounds to the Contemporary. DD16 just said yesterday, I hope there's another hurricane this year! :rotfl:

I only use the cheapie ponchos. I buy a bunch (at least) for everyone on the trip all in matching color. We usually just throw them away when were done with them, but you can be thrifty by stuffing them back into sandwich sized ziplock bags. I usually return the ones we dont use.

Also, if you have a stroller, be sure to bring a stroller cover and cover it anytime you leave it unattended. You dont want to come off a ride to a downpour and soaked stroller (like we did).

:umbrella: I don't think I've ever walked around WS when it wasn't raining so I have never got to see all the outside entertainers people talk about. Other than, MK is fine in the rain. Usually it isn't a last all day rain, so don't worry too much. Honestly, I think they just post thunderstorms daily on their weather report but there were many times we never got the storms they were calling for.

Make sure you have your ponchos, stroller covers and shoes you don't mind getting wet and have fun! Probably want to skip the hairspray that day though. Make sure you got water proof bags for camera too and be sure you get some good pictures of you guys in the lovely ponchos! I always love looking at my pictures of us in the rain, wearing our ponchos or the kids soaked playing in a puddle on Mainstreet!

We were there june 25th-July 2nd and it rained buckets :umbrella:

Just put on your poncho, hike up your pants and put on a brave face! We were stuck in a particularly bad one at EPCOT and we actually took off our shoes and roamed around for the rest of the evening before huddling over a great evening meal at Le Cellier!

We're headed down the 10-17th and I'm a little nervous about the rain too. Don't mind getting wet and we know it's typical of July but it does seem like Dennis could make for more than typical afternoon showers. On our last trip in April 2003 we had an Illuminations cruise reserved and it was cancelled due to severe lightning. We were lucky enough to get another one for this trip and I'm afraid the same thing may happen again! Guess we'll have to be very flexible with that itinerary!

One question though - in heavy rains do they still have Fantasmic? There are two shows scheduled for right now and we have reservations at H&V for the dinner package. Just wondering if they ever cancel a showing due to weather???
