I know it's early, but checking to see if there are any other Thanksgiving week cruisers out there! This will be our 3rd DCL cruise, me, dh and ds (6 years old).

We'll be on the 11/23/02 Western cruise. Two moms traveling with 3 boys! I have twin ds who will be 8 at cruise time and my friend has a ds who will be almost 8. I'm in a Cat 4 on Deck 8 and I think my friend is in Cat 5 on Deck 7. Maybe we can hook up on board.



We can hardly wait!

Has anyone ever missed the ship on embarkation and been able to catch up with it at the next port? (Not that we plan on doing this, just curious)

Wife, myself and DD9 will be in a Cat 7 on Deck 7. Pagemaker, I'd love to get my daughter hooked up with yours, perhaps they could exchange e-mail beforehand. Might add some excitement. This is our 3rd trip, but first weeklong trip. McNuss, ditto for your DD8. PeterPanTwinFans, sounds like you've got your own tribe working! I don't know what to expect over Thanksgiving week other than a turkey dinner on Thursday (a sea-day, I think). Both of our prior cruises were full capacity cruises, so we've seen the crowds before. The ship is big and handles a lot of people gracefully, so I rarely felt overcrowded. I guess the pools are the place where it was the worst, at peak times, and even then we dealt with it. Last June the pool water was like warm bath water, so we spent very little time there, which is saying a lot for us. We normally live in the water. Should be much better at this time of the year. The excursions I'm thinking about include kayaking, snorkeling, swimming and more snorkeling, so I hope the water is comfy.

Wow, all these girls going on the Thanksgiving cruise! DisneyDarwin, I like your categorizing my group as a tribe.....some days it really fits these 3 boys! We're still discussing excursions but will definately do Xcaret in Cozumel and Stingray City/snorkeling in Cayman. Am investigating Capt Marvins to do our Cayman trip. Anyone have any experience with them?

Hubby and I won't be on the Magic, but we'll be on the Wonder for Thanksgiving weekend. Hopefully our "good weather pixie dust" will spread over to the Magic too...23 consecutive trips with great Castaway Cay weather so far!!

I've read enough good things about Capt Marvin that I'm probably going with them too. I really want to go to Xcaret, but have just about talked myself out of it. It looks like too much travel time and too little time there, because I'm the type that would want to do everything. So, I'm now leaning towards doing Chankanaab on our own, a mere cab ride away. We'll save Xcaret and the ruins for another trip. We've been to KW before and done all the tourist things (it's like New Orleans with less wrought iron) so we're probably going kayaking, also on our own. I see no reason to take a DCL excursion in KW when you can do it cheaper on your own --- it's the good old USA after all, and we know how things work.

I'm with you DisneyDarwin, I will not book a DCL excursion in KW. Seems a little silly. We are also going to go to Chankanaab on our own. It seems most cost-effective. In the Caymans, I am looking into booking a catamaran sail on our own; we have friends who go there every year and recommended Red Sail. Some of the DIS-ers thought they were too big, but I am going to risk it. They operate from the Hyatt on 7 mile beach so our plan is to hang out there after the sail. I can't believe that I am planning this far in advance! My DH thinks I've lost my mind.

I don't remember how long ago I booked this cruise, but it's been awhile. I laid low until the first western cruises began and then started paying attention to the excursion reports. That's what I've been paying attention to lately. As soon as I decide which ones we want, I'll book the ones that require advance booking, and then probably lay low until right before the cruise. I keep an eye on the boards every so often to see what's new.

I have been lurking on these boards for about a year. It's only lately that I have met other Turkey Day cruisers and have been actually posting.

But it wasn't until this morning, when I really read the countdown timers that I realized how close it was getting. Oh my gosh! Is it really getting this close?
This is amazing!!

Now I really can't wait to tell the kids!! I'm sure DD10 will be thrilled to email the other girls once we tell her. Did I say this is amazing?

DD is at summer camp for two weeks right now, but would enjoy trading messages when she returns, and making a friend in advance. If your DDs are shy or aren't interested, that's cool too. Mine will be at camp on & off until mid-August so I will have her send your DD a note when she returns. She will only be going into 3rd grade so her typing skills are not too refined!

DD10 is also at camp! This is her first summer at Girl Scout Camp and she absolutely loves it! DD6 is soooo lonely without her best friend (so am I). She can't wait to get older so she can go too!

I'm sure DD10 would love to chat online. I will get your info as you suggested once we let the cat of the bag. (that won't be until the summers over, but I don't know how much longer we can keep this a secret!)

I like the secret idea, and I know there have been cruisers who sprung it on their kids or spouse at the last possible moment. Cool, but I don't know how they hold it in. We're going to Vegas soon and DD won't know until the morning I wake her up to go! She'll freak, mainly over getting to see Blue Man Group again. I've almost spilled the beans a dozen times already.

My DD8 goes to Girl Scout camp, too. She went last year just for 1 week. This year she is going to 2 different camps - one in Vermont for 2 weeks and one in NH for 1 week. Her best friend is going with her for the second one. She also goes to YMCA day camp in between. My mom is taking her to her house in Florida for a week in August, so all told, I am going to be without my one & only for 4 whole weeks! Luckily, I travel for my job so will try not to be here too much to dwell on it. What we working moms do to get the summer months covered...it's hard!

We cancelled our summer vacation so that we can take the cruise. I just don't get enough vacation time and DH runs his own business so every day he is gone is income that cannot be replaced. I go to bed every night dreaming of this cruise. I just cannot wait.
