I have been thinking of going to Disney next October 2012 with my DGD who will 10 by then. Im kind of a big chicken because there has always been 3 or 4 of us going. It seems no one else but my DGD and I want to go. If I make someone else go with us I think it would make it a nice so happy time since they would probably have a bad attitude about being there. Who knows why anyone would not want to go to Disney :rotfl:. But some of my family are burnt out I guess.
Anyway has anyone gone with a child and how did your trip go ?

My daughter and I traveled alone to Disney many, many years. We started going when she was five and have went almost every year since, and she is now 21!!!! We always had a blast!!!! 10 is a great age. Enjoy her and DEFINITELY take her to Disney.

My DGD (8) and I will be going alone for the first time in two days. We too have traveled with others in the past. I am looking forward to it. She loves WDW just as much as I do. :cloud9:

Have a great trip! :goodvibes

My dd8 and I went on a girls trip last year in November and had a GREAT time. I took my ds for his 16th birthday and also had a GREAT time. I love to spend some alone time with each of my kids. We always have fun when we all travel together (luckily my dd and ds are best friends, despite the age difference) but its also nice to spend that time alone together. I say GO FOR IT! :thumbsup2

Wow thanks I feel much better about it now
Im not sure how my family will feel about us going alone :confused3 I havent even told them yet that I may be planning a trip for just the 2 of us . We will be flying in and using the ME, Disney makes transportation so nice then I was planning on staying at CBR because we like the pool. Last trip we stayed at the Poly which had zero entry pool ( I think that is what its called) and we loved that part of the Poly pool. CBR also has the zero entry pool area. Do you think CBR would be good a choice ? Or we may stay at the Poly again, the cost is what is making think about CBR.
I think it would be fun because the 2 of us get along well and like the same things. Last time we went we had a moody adult with us and it would be great not to have to deal with that again :rotfl:

My DS, 7 and I went for 10 days alone in August. We had a great time, of course most of the trip was for him. We did 3 character meals and stayed at POP for him. But we had a great time. We got so much done, we woke up early, were at RP most days and were able to get a lot done. We sat down every night for dinner, which is important for me. The most important thing was that I listened to him, if he said he was tired we went back to the resort. That included the night when I walked out of MK right before Wishes started because he told me his little legs couldn't carry him anymore. I really don't think we had any meltdowns. We also took one day in the middle of the trip to sleep late and go to the pool. We went with a plan, get up early and get lots done in the AM and then when it got hot we really slowed down. I would go alone again with him in a heartbeat. And the best kept secret is how many times we were in line and they called for a party of 2, we were able to get right on the ride. I hope this helps.

As a single mom, I always travelled solo with my two daughters in tow - beginning when they were 4 & 5. We always had a great time. This will be our first trip - next month - with other people. I am hoping that it will go well with more of a crowd!

My DD12 and I just returned, and we have gone, just the two of us, many times! It is so much easier when only 2 people have to agree where to go next, or what to do. For the rides she likes that I don't, we fast pass, so it is not a lot of me hoping she'll be done (I stay in line and use the chicken exit.)

It is also a great bonding opportunity! There is more room in the bed, easier to plan meals, etc.! It will be different, but in a good way!

Have a blast!

I think when we go we will just take it easy not get up real early and rush rush like we did our last vacation lol. We were always up early and in a hurry to get everything done. Which can really make you tired quick getting up early and rushing around in the Florida heat. I plan on spending an entire day at the resort swimming and relaxing. DGD and I love swimming in the Disney pools but we have not devoted a whole day to to enjoy it.

Let us know how it goes with more people going :thumbsup2

DD and I went alone for her 8th birthday trip. We had a GREAT time. We talked a lot ahead of time about what was expected of her, what she should do if something went wrong and about our daily plans. We went at our own pace and did things just for her. We hope to do a mother daughter trip for her 13th birthday :)

I took my DS (11 at the time) by ourselves for 6 nights since DH and other DS didn't want to go. Best. Trip. Ever. It was so relaxing. It was great to only worry about what two of us wanted to do. One day we just strolled around world showcase all day long (had lunch in France and dinner in Japan), I thought he'd get bored, but he was the one who needed to hit every country and their giftshop, do kim possible, sample snacks. It was also a great bonding experience as this is my quiet child:thumbsup2.

Disney is the best vacation for a solo trip with kids since they handle the whole transportation thing for you, I never had to worry about getting lost. And not once did I feel unsafe.

I know what you mean I love the Magic Express and being able to sit back and not worry about anything.

Thats great, my DGD is 9 right now. So we have some things in common. Let me know how your trip goes :thumbsup2

I took my two kids this past August by myself for 10 days, did a split stay at CBR and AKV. We had a blast. DD is 9 and DS is 4. It was nice to be able to make the decisions by myself and spend the time with the kids. I want to do it again next summer!!

I have traveled solo with one or both kids all over the world (and WDW)!

Just returned from 10 days at WDW with DD17 and had a fantastic trip. We stayed at CBR and dined, park hopped, went to Harry Potter World, shopped the outlets, Dillard's, visited the Atlantic shore. Disney makes it very easy even for the inexperienced solo parent traveler. Enjoy!

I have traveled solo with one or both of my kids many times. On our last trip I let my DS choose the resort for the week. He picked his favorite, the VWL. He also takes a more active role in touring plans if it's just the two of us.
I love it! It's a great bonding time and I find they really open up when we're one on one.

Back in 2007 I took my then 12-year-old nephew for 4th of July, just the two of us. We had a blast. A lot more fun than trying to go with the whole family and having to compromise for everything. Except for preplanned ddp reservations everything else was on a whim. Best vacation at WDW ever with an xmas visit and Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party a close second.

I have taken my sister's childern on various 2-person trips to WDW/DL...I took my 12yo nephew on a week long trip to DL a few years ago...this past July I took my 8yo nephew on a week long trip to WDW...I will take my 11yo niece on another trip next year...its great to spend one-on-one time with my niece/nephews...hopefully in a couple years I can take a family with my Mom, my sister, her kids and I...just go on your trip and have a great time...Disney will take care of everything...they will provide the Magic you need...!!!
