I have constantly itchy shins, and occasionally thigh areas. I moisturize twice a day, and that doesn't seem to help. I find that it is ok when I first shave my legs, but then a couple of days later they start to really get itchy and it lasts for a couple of days and then calms down again. I can't just shave every day or every two days as my skin gets too irritated. And I can't just never shave as.... well..... that's not an option either.

Anyone else deal with this and how do you treat it?

That sounds like hell - I don't have your problem so the only thing I can say is; have you considered waxing or better still imo - epilating :)

Have you discussed this with your doctor? I bet that there is something better than your moisturizer that will help.

Use Cetaphil or Cerave.

Definitely talk to a doctor or dermatologist! Maybe an epilator would help hair removal on irritated spots.

Try Cetaphil mosturizing cream as opposed to the lotion. A doctor told me once that the "cream" formulas tend to be better for really dry skin. Good luck!

I had this happen to me so long ago. The only thing that works for me is either Cetaphil in the tub or CeraVe in the tub. My preference these days is CeraVe. It works a little better but both will do.

I often have very itchy skin (not necessarily related to shaving). I agree that a good cream moisturizer (I use Cetaphil) helps... I also sleep with a cool-mist humidifier next to my bed and that seems to help too.

Try the Cerave Itch Relief Moisturizing Cream. I have an issue with random hives (I am working with a doctor to figure out), and have found this stuff works better than anything. Relieves the itching and moisturizes the skin. It says it lasts up to 8 hours and i often can go longer than that.

Shaving also removes the top layer of dead skin cells, in addition to hair. If it calms down right after you shave, but returns, maybe try an exfoliating scrub, like St. Ives, on the days you don't shave. Although, you probably have a problem like eczema. But, until you can finally see a dermatologist, a scrub may help. Some facial scrubs are really gentle, so you may need to experiment with how smooth or rough of a scrub you need.

I get itchy arms and legs, nothing helped until it took Zyrtec.

I suggest using a sugar scrub while in the shower; that will help with exfoliating as well as moisturizing. Then apply the Cetaphil or Cerave cream. I personally think the Cetaphil works better than the Cerave.

Sure, itchy legs and arms from the dry winter. I don't do anything, just bleed from the itching. Not much else I can do.

I use Curel Itch Relief lotion. Also during the cold months I can only shower every other day, or I'm clawing at my skin.

I do have some in shower body lotion that you apply after cleansing, and then rinse off. I think the one I have now is by Oil of Olay, though a few companies make it. It helps a lot. You just have to be careful as it makes your shower floor very slippery.

I use Gold Bond eczema cream. Works really well. The cream is much better than a lotion.

This is why I make it a point to minimize how much time I spend wearing socks. I'm sensitive to elastic of all kinds, and the stretch added to socks comes from elastomer fibers. so they irritate my skin over time., and putting lotion on followed by socks does no good because the socks absorb more of the lotion than my skin does.

I'm much better in summer when I'm always barelegged.

If it's due to dry winter air in your home try a humidifier. We have a whole house humidifier on our furnace and it makes a difference.

Do you always use the same type of razor? Maybe you are allergic to whatever in in that stupid moisturizing strip they put on all of them. Can you try using a different brand? The itch could be some slight swelling either from the irritation or an allergic reaction to the razor. Are you allergic to wool? Manufacturers like to sneak lanolin into women's beauty and personal care products.

I did. Mine was on my legs and underarms- basically wherever I shaved and it got to be really bad. I hope yours isn't like mine. Sometimes I would develop hives on my legs (after the itching started, not before) and actually draw blood with how much they itched. Mine always started about 12 hours after shaving and would continue for 2 days before calming back down. It didn't matter if I used shaving cream or soap, various types of razors, soaked first or not, used moisturizer or not. An electric razor was better than a blade but it still itched badly. I saw 2 dermatologists and their best bet was eczema but they didn't really seem to know. (They also kind of looked at me like I was crazy. I figured I couldn't be the only one dealing with that!) One suggested a steroid creme but it didn't really work. Mine also got worse as I got older. No problem in my teens and 20's. Started and became bothersome in my 30's. Worse in my 40's. I found that waxing didn't trigger the itching (hurt in other ways, but no itching afterwards). I wondered if it had something to do with the blunt edge of the hair growing back from shaving that was irritating my skin. I have very dark hair and live in Texas where not shaving in the summer time is not an option. I eventually tried laser hair removal. It was expensive and took many treatment sessions but it worked for me. OP, I hope you have better luck than I did.

I don’t know. I get all irritated if I shave too close or hard and it like scrapes my skin. But that gets better pretty fast. I wonder if you could be sensitive to something you are shaving with? Or could it be some germ or yeast? I think I have heard of that. Have you tried looking it up online?

I know I wouldn’t shave sensitive areas all the way up my legs and thighs where they might rub. But I am not very hairy so I can get away with it!
