Anyone Game? It’s my Sep 2013 Blog! I'm home; with a TR link in #1189, 10/14

Dang money always gets in the way. Why can't it grow on trees? :confused3 :rotfl: I agree, Southern Utah is beautiful. We love Moab but haven't been in years. We're hoping for some time this summer on Lake Powell. This will be our third summer having our boat and I'm dying to get to Powell.

Summer? I'll be at Page in September....:rolleyes1

I think those are some pretty FREAKIN' GOOD pictures of the fireworks and other lights! :thumbsup2

Catching up rather belatedly-I concur. We'd love to take photos as good as those, even if we lug tripod and good camera with right lens with us, never quite get shots as wonderful as yours!

Plans as they stand for September 17 - 19; Sedona

What are we doing?

The thing about our visit to Sedona is that we will be there during full moon. I’m going to be looking for vantage spots to be photographing that man in the moon with the red rocks in the background. And whilst I’m doing that, I suspect that DH might be out seeking the Drum Circle that seems to run in Sedona during full moon night.

You can come visit us as most full moon nights just up the end of our street the Lyell Deer Farm (the Kupidabin Wilderness Cultural Assn part) have drumming nights-nice to sit outside in summer and listen. They also hold native American sweat lodge ceremonies.

Haven't said your plans for your trip are looking fantastic and well thought out. Also loved the pics of White Night, first I've seen from the Melbourne event. Think I need to put that on my wish list for a trip next year!

:lmao:

Look at those asterisks! I'm going to have to get Obelisk and Getafix in here to balance it out....

:scratchin I sure hope no fly-by-mod is checking! Wouldn't want to have my Butte kicked off the Dis for this kind of language.

OMG - I didn't mean to get censored! Guess I'll stop with the Butte jokes...I probably shouldn't *crack* anymore! :goodvibes

I can't believe that I missed that update! The brekkie and the Monument Valley plans. I'd like to hear how your jeep trip goes, I guess our plan is to stay two nights and do the jeep tour during the daytime whenever we decide to go there. Sounds like everything is coming together nicely and you have all your lodging and stuff set.

:goodvibes Thanks Wendy.

I mentioned it to DH. You never know. :thumbsup2

If you do, we can do a DisMeet for the night.

I guess we better turn the other cheek.

I'm pretty sure I'll be writing it up in my TR. I had hoped to stay 2 nights at MV but given how the plans worked out, I had to cut it to 1 night in order to enjoy the best of Page.

Plans as they stand for September 25 - 28; Around Durango and Pagosa Springs

Where are we going?

Leave Monument Valley and drive towards somewhere between Durango and Pagosa Springs. This drive takes about 4 - 5 hours and I believe that we might gain an hour heading out of Monument Valley.

I’d like to stop in Cortez at the Visitor Centre. They sell tickets up to 2 days in advance for a ranger led tour of Mesa Verde.

Where are we staying?

DH’s cousins are playing hosts to us and I really don’t know where we are staying at this stage. They do have a holiday house somewhere closer to Pagosa Springs and we are going to be hanging out with them for the next 4 nights.

What are we doing?

We will probably go-see Durango.

Likewise for Pagosa Springs.

I hope to get to Mesa Verde and to see fall foliage during this part of the journey. After that, it will fantastic to see family on this part of the trip.
Aside from that, I have no fixed plans and will be happy to go with the flow and leave it to our hosts. It is fall and there are a lot of drives in the area.

Don't forget to stop at 4 corners on your way. Not much to see there, but the only place you can be in 4 states (and 2 time zones) at once. Looks like you'll go right by it.

Mesa Verde is very cool, especially if you like the Anasazi ruins. Well worth a day there. Black Canyon of the Gunnison is worth a look, but that's all it is unless you are prepared for serious hiking.

Sounds like a lovely mix of visiting family and sightseeing.:thumbsup2

Those look like some awesome places to go to. I have to put them on my list! I didn't realize that Durango was such a small town, but from your pictures, it looks kinda like a bit of po dunk. Not that that's bad, just a notice

Four corners is on my list. It'll be nice to be in 4 states at exactly the same time, albeit an hour apart. :rotfl:

Thanks. I hope so. And even if we end up on the couch for these 4 days, it'll be nice.

I'll let you know when I see you. Some of the podunks in the US have ended up being the best parts of our holidays in the past. We don't need big cities to keep us amused. It's really all about the locals and if they are friendly or not.

A very nice plan for your trip.

Thanks. :goodvibes

Reading your PTR is like playing pass the parcel. Every time you post plans for a new section of your trip, I feel like another layer has been unwrapped. Your trip is full of so many interesting (layers) stops that I find myself wanting to google for more info. Yet in the spirit of all good games I'll wait in anticipation, wanting to hear all about it in real time in your words.

I second Minnie Mum. Also I had a friend who did the ranger tour of Mesa Verde around 2 years ago -brilliant photos and she got heaps more out of the visit. I think they also did a local-led tour of Monument Valley too.

Awww.....that's a very sweet onion thing to say. ::yes::

Thanks Wendy. I really wanna do the ranger tour at Mesa Verde but it all depends on DH's cousins. They aren't sure that they wanna do it. DH and I talked it over. We will probably call them when we are in Cortez to see if they want us to get them the advance purchase tickets.

A School Carnival - Food, food and food!

It was a busy weekend for us. We had a school carnival to go to! And we all know that school carnivals are all about food, glorious food!

There was a cake stall. And this one was snapped up. Literally! As I was taking this shot, this cake was sold....and it had only just been put out not 2 minutes prior.

Someone has a sick sense of humour. Only 9 months to go to White Christmas.

0323SchoolCarnival006.jpg

There were cupcakes....not as many as last year; but no less delicious.

0323SchoolCarnival100.jpg

There were a few stalls selling knitting-knacks....

0323SchoolCarnival009.jpg

0323SchoolCarnival011.jpg

I liked the home made dolls....

0323SchoolCarnival019.jpg

....and the silver jewellery.

0323SchoolCarnival046.jpg

But the stalls that captivated me were the ones selling food.

0323SchoolCarnival023.jpg

0323SchoolCarnival024.jpg

Definitely nuts involved!

0323SchoolCarnival032.jpg

Do you see what I see?

0323SchoolCarnival034.jpg

::yes::

0323SchoolCarnival037.jpg

These were O.M.G....to die for!

0323SchoolCarnival038.jpg

My favourite stall.

0323SchoolCarnival071.jpg

0323SchoolCarnival073.jpg

0323SchoolCarnival075.jpg

Voila!

0323SchoolCarnival077.jpg

The students also ran a Devonshire Tea shop.

0323SchoolCarnival107.jpg

These were also on offer....decadence indeed!

0323SchoolCarnival081.jpg

0323SchoolCarnival082.jpg

0323SchoolCarnival079.jpg

All in all, not a bad day out.

I never said that podunk was a bad thing. I prefer small towns over techno cities. Last night we ate at a place in downtown LA that reminded me of futuristic cities like Logan's Run, and Total Recall. It was weird.

That school fair looks really fun. I love freshly made crepes!
