Hi, I'll be at the Marriott on Market St. first week of Nov. on business...can anyone suggest a good casual place within walking distance (1/2 mile or so)...thanks!

Hiya - I live right in the city and I just quit my job on Market Street. Italian Bistro is pretty good. There is also another great restaurant at 12th Street, on block above Market called "Maggiano's Little Italy". It was great when we went. There is also a unique restaurant about a 5 min. walk at 8th and Chestnut called "Jones"...It kind of reminds you of the brady bunch. Its owned by a famous restauranteur named Steven Starr. PM for more info if you need anything.

Ditto on Maggianos. With all of the great food that they give you, I don't know how they stay in business!

Not to hijack this thread, but for all you Philly people........there is a meet being planned for November 13th. Details still being decided, but info is on the dismeets board.

The Hard Rock Cafe is right near the Marriott, come out the front doors and look for the large guitar. You might try looking in the Reading Terminal, lots of stands but great food. They have lots of Philly specialties (cheesesteaks and hoagies) as well as food from the Amish in Lancaster.
Chinatown is located nearby on 10th St and Race. (walked to 10th and hang a left)

Lots of restaurants are down between Front (1st) and 7th Streets on Market and Chestnut streets.
(Chestnut is one block south from your hotel)

You may also want to check with Concierge at the hotel.

sorry, it's Girasole Ristorante on Locust St.

Nice upperscale place Northern Italian cuisine. Good idea to make reservations for evenings. "Girasole," I believe translates to "sunflower" which explains their motif.

Portifino's (on Walnut) is Italian but not as upscale, but larger portions and noiser.

Maggianos is great, that's where I had my graduation dinner and my family enjoyed it very much. Also if you're looking for really casual they have tons of great food inside the reading terminal market, they've even shown some of the places on Food Network shows.

tricia.
