Anyone for parasailing????

I am interested in hearing about other people's experience's with the parasailing at CR. Any one gone and have any reviews/comments to share?

We've done it and really enjoyed it. Very exciting and the folks are very nice and professional. If you do it in the summer, I'd do it in the morning or early afternoon so you don't have to worry about the weather.

My adult kids did a tandem some years back, they loved it. If you do, ask about discounts. I know there is an AP discount, not sure about DVC or others.

My son and his girlfriend did the tandem parasailing at the Contemporary back in 2004 (we took the two of them to Disney for his high school graduation). The day they were scheduled was the day of a thunderstorm right around the time they were scheduled to go. They were very accommodating and rescheduled it for later in the week. The kids had a blast. I am terrified of heights but for some reason, I really want to do this!! DH and I are going without our DD and this would be a great opportunity for us to do something so "crazy" (for me it is!). Any idea what the cost is? We would probably do a tandem. Thanks to all for your comments!

We have done it twice and I think it's worth it. I even took pictures with a disposal camera while up. I didn't want to drop the digital camera so opted for the disposal camera.

I haven't done it at disney, but did it in fort lauderdale last feb. it was an amazing experience. The height did not bother me in the least, neither did I get that "stomach in your throat" kind of feeling. It was just plain amazing. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I went parasailing at the Contemporary in 2006 and had a blast! 2 of us went together. It wasn't nearly as thrilling as I thought it would be, but it was still amazing. By that I mean, I wasn't scared by the height like I thought I would be and there was no dropping or losing your stomach sensation like I expected. It was all very gradual and we felt very safe. Now parasailing in Mexico the next year was a different story I would highly recommend parasailing at the Contemporary

How far in advance did those of you who went at CR make the reservation? I am hoping for a more "spur of the moment" type scenario depending on the weather, our moods, etc.

The more I think about it, the more I am intrigued to go for it! You only live once, right???

I would also like to know if I need to make advanced reservations & also the approx. cost of it, both single & tandem?

Just bumping to see if anyone has answers to the approx cost and how far in advance you "need" to book. Can you make last minute plans?

We may not be doing this after all as my DH came VERY close to drowning yesterday. The boat he was in capsized and he was in the frigid New England water for about 5 mins. He was rescued and has no physical damage but the outcome would have been vastly different if this stranger didn't save his life and his friend's life.

He's sworn off boats and fishing so he may not be up for being dragged around a lake dangling from a parachute, but we'll see. He's still with me and thats all that matters

I haven't done it myself, but I'd really love to! We're going on a Disney Cruise in March and going to WDW after, so I'd really love to parasail at one of those places.

I went last year (07) by myself, just barely making the min weight of 130, and then again this year (12/26/08), tandem with my mom because it was so windy and I'm just barely the min weight still so I would have been thrown around up there. I love it. I wouldn't have ask to go back if I hadn't. My mom was really nervous about going, but she ended up loving every minute though..
As for reservation, both times we walked right up and got on the next boat. This year, the guy working said it was their busiest day of the month (12/26). He also said that from Jan 2 through the 10, they had no reservation. Another thing he told us is that alot more people have been walking up and scheduling, or calling while they are down there (the day or two before hand) while in past years, people have been making reservation 6 months out. (My mom and I talk to people alot... =] ) So depending on when you are going, you can walk up and get in, or you have to make a reservation.
I don't know the price though sorry. Have fun! =]

I know when my son and his girlfriend did this in 2000, we had our TA make the ressies about a month ahead of time for us (now we were there late June through 4th of July). It rained the day they were supposed to go (there was lightening in the area) so they could not go up. They were very accommodating in finding another time for them on a day later in the week.

We have done this twice and both times made reservations about 48 hrs in advance (we are not planners). It's so much fun.

Also, please keep in mind that the captain and assistant on the boat should be tipped so you should take some cash for that.

It's wonderful seeing MK and Epcot from above.
