Actually 2010 was our fifth year at HHI at Thanksgiving, but the first year we felt it was warm enough for the pool.

Hi

Can I join the thread :)

I will be staying at HHI from 9th April to 16th April - really looking forward to it and keeping fingers crossed for some nice weather.

Can anyone tell me what the 2 bed units are like - are they dedicated 2 bedroom units or lock offs like at other resorts ???

Just got back last night after a really quick trip. We had a 2 bedroom in building 27. LOVED the location, however we were very disappointed that the main pool area, including the hot tub was closed for refurbishment. Coming from the the cold north and it being an adult vacation, this was one thing we were looking forward to the most and it was the hot topic of our conversation during the 12 hour drive there. But we made due.....It was chilly, but so much nicer than here at home. We had a great lunch at the Quarterdeck by the lighthouse. Best seafood gumbo! We also ate the the Old Oyster Factory which is a must.

I ran my first 5K at Jarvis (?) Park...I think that is the correct name. I had no idea what to expect but had fun. I felt the course was well marked once I got started and people were having a good time. A little crowded at the beginning and I would have started in another place if I knew better. There was great fun at the end....food, music, laughs. I was very happy with my time.

Just wanted to give a very quick report. If you have specific questions I will be happy to answer them, but need to get back to playing catch up!

Too bad about the pool and hot tub. Building 27 lookd like it would have beautiful views. Any pictures? One time DH and I walked around the resort dreaming about which villas probably had the best views and Building 27 was right up there. We were sad we're not likely to experience that buiding though since we always get a 1 BR. I'm trying to place Jarvis park. Was the Old Oyster Factory uncrowded at this time of year? We've never eaten there-whenever we look across the marsh at the parking lot, it looks crowded. Then, when we get near there, DH won't go past Roastfish and Cornbread.

Glad that you had a great time despite the pool being closed....when is it due to re-open?

Would love to see any pictures!

Jarvis Park is near the cross island bridge....I think....I am SO bad with directions. Thank goodness they told me which way to run LOL. Old Oyster Factory was not crowded. We were there on a Saturday evening around 7 with no wait. They had a great happy hour so we sat in the bar area looking out over the water! Perfect! They had $0.50 raw oysters and steamed shrimp, plus discounted wine so we took full advantage of it. We have eaten there a few times and it is always good. Funny, we went past Roastfish and Cornbread and put that on our list for next time when we have a longer stay. We also ate at Guissepis (I botched that spelling too) our last night.

A cool thing happened near our building. We were on the porch having a drink before heading out to dinner and a young bald eagle landed on a tree very close to us. It was so very cool!

We would love to meet up with you again too. We saw Chef Gordon and were talking about the MixEAR and how we took all the extras back to the main pool. What a fun night that was!

The pool was full of water the day we left but still no sign of opening. We were really surprised that it was closed. The CM at the front desk could tell we were disappointed and could not figure out why we didn't know this ahead of time. But oh well.... we had fun anyway.

Updated thru 2/17.

KarenB, that must have been cool! I've never seen a bald eagle at the resort.

Does anyone know when the pool is due to reopen? We are going in April and son would be devaststaed if it was closed!!!

My family will be at HHI over 4th of July. We've practically gone every year since 1996 when we joined. We've had family reunions there, and taken friends there. Now that our boys are grown (26 & 21), we take their girlfriends. We absolutely love going there and 4th of July would not be the same if we didn't go. We use to go after Christmas and before New Year's but the last couple of years, DH and I have been going on Disney cruises. We love going to other places thru DVC but nothing beats going home to HHI!

Can anyone confirm that the pool is back open now?
Debsx:)

I checked into it and, while I cannot remember the exact date, I do recall reading that the pool refurb would be complete before the end of February. We are going the first week of April and my girls are more excied about the pool than the ocean. I'm sure it will be back in service by then.

We will be there April 22-25th. I can't wait. This will be our first visit there. TALB
