I saw a pic today on the news where he was riding thru a crowd and the several were giving him the finger...

must be hard, knowing you've worked and struggled and people think it comes easy...

That and the persistent hounding about his alleged use of performance-enhancing steroids -- despite the fact that he is the most tested athlete in the world, and has never failed a drug test. Never.

I think what is perceived as arrogance is his 'survivor mentality' and 'live for today, for you don't know what tomorrow will bring' coming out. He was about as close to death you can be without actually dieing. Is he arrogant, sure, but show me ANY professional athelete who does not show some arrogance (confidence).

But then, what do I know? I just continue to be BLOWN AWAY by his performance in the Tour.

It's just a comment based on the rumors surrounding the break up of his marriage, it's been said that his cheating lead to the break up. It seems that the Lance started to really enjoy the fame side and was rumored to have had affairs during his marriage, he's now dating Sheryl Crow. I just think it's a pretty crappy thing to do to his wife and 3 kids. But then again it's all rumor based news.

I's unsafe. Lance fell down last year when his handlebar got tangled with a fan's purse.

Lance is #1 so fans will be against him. Look at the NY Yankees and the Lakers.

I watch it every night when I get home from work and have been following the race for many years. He trains year round a lot of the riders do not do that. The comentators were speaking of Jan Ullrich who has finished second to Lance 5 years in a row does not start serious training in April.

I have to say that I am addicted to watching. Every morning, I sit there, like a zombie. My dh will come in at some point and say.."Oh, you're watching your show!" Makes it sound like my nana and her 'stories'. Yes, I've heard that Lance can be a bit of an arrogant type, but I'll overlook it. He is an incredible athlete. Trains constantly. And I'm not a bike rider. Even I can appreciate his focus. Todays stage ending was incredible. Lance was trying to let his teammate win the stage but the other rider just didn't have it in him to finish first. So, Lance shot past the leader. It was a heart-stopping moment. When you think of how cancer almost 'got him' it's almost unbelieveable how well he does. Man, I wouldn't even want to walk up those mountain roads!!! And with those nut cases lining the road?? Wouldn't you think the officials could control them? My heart is in my throat every time they have to ride through that 'gauntlet'. Incredible skills.

I've wondered about this too. If he really did blow his marriage on the alter of the fame and focus of cycling, then I'm less that impressed no matter what his "achievements" are. But the more the French protest, the more I'm pulling for him....

I've never heard anyone say anything bad about him or how he treats others, and here in Austin we would hear it all the time if it were well known... This is where he lives and trains for a good part of the year, one of his training partner's friends is a very popular morning DJ.

And Galahad, I guess I'm not fond of his personal life either, but I am truly impressed with his determination and drive, and his acomplishments after an illness that would have left him DEAD just a few short years ago . . . I guess when he really is that good, he deserves a little arrogance, doesn't he?
