Got a great deal on Allegiant Air for $89 one way . . . but flying into Sanford airport.

We've always flown to Orlando International Airport before, and have never gone into this one.

Anyone else flown here?

Hi there,

Yes we flew into Sanford direct from Manchester, England in September just gone. This was also a decision made based on the cheap air fare!

We had no problems with the place, honestly, it was pretty smooth. I'm sure you'll find it worth the savings. Are you hiring a car? That was the only thing, the taxi to Pop was pretty expensive.

We flew into Orlando-Sanford last November. It's a small airport. We didn't have any problems. We rented a car before we went down, so our car was ready when we got there.

One piece of advice, we took the main highway to Disney from the airport, is it I-4? Traffic was awful. When we left Disney and went back to the airport, the cast member gave us an alternate route on a toll road. There wasn't much traffic at all. It was a much better commute, so you might want to take that into consideration if you decide to fly into Sanford.

We have flown into Sanford, it is much smaller than MCO but is very easy to navigate. Not sure but you will either need a rental, hire a taxi or town car, as Mears didn't work out of Sanford and not sure about ME.

It's a nice airport. I've picked up and dropped off people there. But as the previous poster mentioned, it's a LONG way from Sanford to WDW (as compared to Orlando International). With light traffic, it can take close to an hour to make the 45 mile trip.

Our town car driver did it in 1 hour 15 minutes, of course this was in December.

Take 417. It's easy, convenient and no traffic (it's worth the few bucks).

A word of caution though, with the instability of fuel prices, I am not sure I would book with a low-cost, "no-name" carrier like that. How far out is your flight?

We've flown into Sanford twice. We loved it. Had absolutely no problems. We didn't even have the traffic problems on I-4 but timing is everything. Unfortunately for us, our airport decided to discontinue the direct flight to Sanford. This is a huge bummer!

I'd like to thank everyone for their replys. I was also wondering what Sanfor airport was like. We also booked on Alegiant Air flying out of Portsmouth, NH to Orlando/Sanford. Had to take the chance with a new airline since we got flights for $39 each way. Maine :firefight

Hi Deb. My brother and family flew into Sanford (on Allegiant) back in August. The rental car place stayed open for their plane and my brother had no problem getting to Disney from there. I think he said it was a 50 minute drive but worth the $$ he saved flying into there vs Orlando. :)

We've flown into Sanford twice. It is so much smaller than MCO but very convenient. We did the drive to WDW in 50 minutes and that was in July!

Ok, how far south do I have to drive to get this rate, LOL!

I am so jealous of your fares! Never flown into Sanford because no airlines out of RST fly into that airport. I keep checking Tampa for lower fares, but they seem to be even higher htan MCO.

Is Allegiant Air out of Des Moines airport?

yes it is out of des moines, so go to allegiantair.com and check the rates! they can be very high at times so consider costs for rental car/town car...we decided against allegiant but it is NON stop from DES MOINES which is great I am sure, we just liked the ME transportation option better...so we flew American...

herc, they've also started flying NONSTOP out of Cedar Rapids as well . . .
