We have always just sent our taxes in by mail (we do our own). Has anyone filed online? I understand you don't do it through the IRS, but there are separate sites. Any recommendations, suggestions?
I normally wouldn't consider it, but am hearing if you send it by mail it could be months before you see your return.
Thanks!

I prepare our taxes and e-file through H&R Block.

They have a dew different levels of tax prepe you can use.

I fill in all of the info, make sure I haven't forgotten anything, review it, then they review it and then we e-file.

We always have our refund within 2 weeks.

I love it!

I use TurboTax, and the software submits my taxes, prints out my copies and will feed the data into next years package.

We use Turbo Tax. In the past we've gone through Fidelity.com and gotten it for 50% but this year we bought it at Costco because it was even cheaper. If you're going to request that your refund be electronically deposited make sure you check with your bank first on how funds get routed and what the routing numbers are.

If you go to taxactonline.com you can do your taxes for free and efile for $7.95. I did mine yesterday and I received an email telling me my refund would be direct deposited to my account Feb 27th.

You can use the deluxe version online for $9.95.

I have used Turbotax Online and HRBlock online. I preferred turbotax but they wanted to charge me for direct deposit this time so I went with HRBlock.

I had my state return in less then 1 week, Federal in 2 weeks.

We've filed efile since its inception. (maybe 5 -7 years?)

I can't tell you the last time I actually mailed a return in. We have had no problems whatsoever!

I used turbo tax last year and H & R Block this year. I liked both. I didn't qualify for free turbo tax this year. :D

and file both our Fed and State taxes online. Turbo Tax gives you a free e-file (after a rebate) and we deducted the cost of it on our taxes. We got it at Costco for 34.95 with a free state download and a rebate on the fed filing cost.

We sent our taxes via online last Thursday and I've already spent it! :p Both our state and federal were electronically deposited by Wednesday this week so less than a week total!

I dont think I'd ever file any other way now but we have VERY simple taxes...really basic!

I have used Turbotax in the past, but this year we are using an accountant again. Between our primary residence with a refi, the construction of the vacation home, and DVC, plus some other oddball investment issues, I decided that we needed to spend the money to have a pro file for us.

We also had some tax related questions moving forward, which he was able to answer for us, and that in itself was worth paying him for :)

We use TaxCut from Kiplinger. We gotthe federal return in a little over a week and the state in just a few business days.

This will be year 4 for us with turbotax.com Love it. Last year had refund in 5 days...probably because we filed so early (Feb 1 as soon as W-2's were in hand)....longest it's ever taken is 10 days. Was free the first year (military offer then) and have paid 19.99 every other year, deducting it on the next year's taxes, as allowed if you itemize :)

I have used taxactonline.com for the last 3 years. I LOVE IT, and there is NO software that you have to buy! It walks you thru everything, and alerts you to possible errors. Also, when you use it year after year.......you can import information from the prior year so you don't have to re-enter it every time!
