Anyone famous in your family?

I am related to a former Preisdent Martin Van Buren, he is related to the roosevelts so I dont if I am related to them to somehow.

Matt

By marriage I suppose. My mil had her lineage done a while back and she is related to the Adams (the presidents) and Frank Baum (author of Wizard of Oz) was her great uncle (maybe great, great?).

Not a celebrity, but my great uncle was a pretty famous bishop in the Chicago area, and back in the 60's and early 70's my grandfather's cousin was the head of all the nuns in the world. Her name was sister Eulalia and she lived in the vatican with the pope.

I just found out this past weekend that a hockey dad from our team is the brother of actress Elisabeth Shue though. Pretty cool!

Not really.

But my brothers senior class choir performed at the Sydney Olymics a few years ago.

Not really famous, but my great grandfather helped Orville & Wilbur Wright push thier plane off when they were making their attempts at flight at Kill Devil Hill. He was working at the Coast Guard station nearby and heard they needed some help, so he and some other guys went. My old Uncle John was about 9-10; he & his dog watched them working and when they fired up those engines he took off running and didn't stop until he got home.

You can see his picture and the notation in Orville's log book if you ever visit the memorial in Kill Devil Hill, NC. Big tall fellow with a bushy mustache.

my brother got filmed for Ferris Bueller's Day Off but he ended up on the cutting room floor. My ex-boyfriends brother is the kid that is sleeping and drooling in that movie and several more of my and my brother's friends are extras too.
My mother was in a car in the background in the Al Capone movie with Kevin Costner. OK, my mother was actually lying on the floor of the car because she wasn't dressed properly (for the era) to be seen, but her then boyfriend was driving the car. Can't see him, but we can spot his car.

My family is directly related to Herbert Hoover on my Dad's side. And on my Mom's (she's Japanese), we're somehow related to some royalty from the Shogun era. I always thought that was just hearsay until my younger brother came back from a trip to Japan and he'd visited the national museum in Kyoto. He took a picture of our family crest which is apparently pretty prominantly displayed. He told his guide who in turn did some checking on the museum computer and ta-da! They have this guy's lineage all the way up to my Mom's parents and her siblings. Neat part was that some in-house historian sat my brother down and with the help of a translator, took our family info down so now my family and I are listed.

Pretty neat!

How exciting that your great grandfather was involved in such an important part of history.

One of my distant relatives was the head of an Army Hospital in Germany, and got tons of honors and awards serving in Korea and Viet Nam. He was just buried in Arlington Cemetery on Feb. 11, 2004. My dad went to the funeral, apparantly a lot of important people were there. :D

Only me, I'm surprised you haven't heard of me- The "MEANEST" Mom in the World. :wizard:

In our family tree we are related to Francis Bellamy, who wrote the Pledge of Alegience and John Breckinridge, who served as vice president under James Buchannan and ran for President in 1860.

Of my living relatives, I have two who aren't necessarily household names but have been successful beyond their wildest dreams in the entertainment industry. One cousin is the Senior Executive Producer for Nickelodeon Movies - she's the credited producer for the Lemony Snicket movie, Spongebob, Rugrats, etc. Another cousin is Boyd Gaines, currently starring on Broadway in 12 Angry Men. He's won 3 Tony awards for Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor. When he's not doing a play, he does guest appearances on shows like Law and Order, and also narrarates for books on tape.

Since "famous" can depend on the group or circle of people, I guess my Dad is pretty famous. He is one of the best known authors on airplanes and helicopters, lots of people in those "circles" know who he is by name and sight. We actually had someone ask for his autograph one night at TRU.

This is my cousin: Frank Pesce

I haven't seen him in a bazillion years, but it's fun to spot him in a movie. Usually it's a bit part, but it's still pretty cool. :smooth:

BTW, his first "break" was on Baretta. He was a valet attendant and got to utter those immortal words "How's your bird?"

my dad is like this within his field of expertise too. one of my friends who was in my wedding actually got her grad school professor to give her an excused abscence from class because she said she was going to be missing class for the guy who wrote their class textbook's daughter's wedding. :p

in terms of genealogy, i am directly related from a lot of well known people from a long time ago. one of them is john lothropp, who founded barnstable, ma. we are also directly descended from edward III and edward I (in different lines). edward I is aka "longshanks", you know, the guy who killed mel gibson. ;)

Well good lord, it isn't Andrew is it??? He was the hottie on Melrose Place. Perhaps Elisabeth has two brothers??? Andrew also was apparently a soccer player before Melrose.

On my mom's side, my great uncle dropped the atomic bomb, if you call that famous. He flew the Enola Gay and Bock's Car.

My grandmother's brother was a professional wrestler in the 50's, 60's and early 70's. He wrestled at Boris Volkov (or Volkoff) and won some tag team titles. He was also the Masked Destroyer, or something like that.

DH is locally well-known. I wouldn't call him famous at all but it is strange when the pizza guy says "wow you sound just like you do on the radio" when your trying to order your dinner.

Both sides of my family are early 20th century immigrants so I don't know if there are any historical relations in Poland or Ireland.

I was wondering that too. If it's not Andrew your hockey dad has a famous sister and brother!
