My dh is attending a golf tournament there next week and hasn't been back there in about 18 yrs. He remembers loving Chicago pizza and is looking for any restaurant recommendations. He is staying in Skokie, which is about 40 minutes away. Thanks for any help!!

Hi Patio! I just sent you a PM. I'm no help where Olympia Fields is concerned, but I do know Skokie! Feel free to get in touch! :D

There are a lot of good restaraunts in the Orland Park/Tinley Park area, which is about 20 minutes away from Olympia Fields normally. I say normally, because this is the U.S. Open (one of the 4 Major PGA golf tournaments), and the golf course entrance is on a 2 LANE HIGHWAY!!! I think getting in and out of the course is going to be a nightmare.

For great deep dish pizza, there is a Gino's East Pizzeria in Orland Park at the intersection of 159th St. and Harlem Ave. And, if you want awesome homemade ice cream, there is an Oberweis Dairy not 50 feet away, directly in front of the pizza place.

Your hubby will not go away dissapointed, I guarantee it!!!!

Hope your DH enjoys the golf tournament. I had the pleasure of watching both the Golden Bear and the King play there together several years ago, along with two other greats - Lee Trevino and Gary Player. A beautiful golf course.

He might want to try Maggiano's at the Old Orchard Mall in Skokie.

Also, next door to Skokie is Lincolnwood. He'll find Lou Malnati's there. ;)

Considering that US Open parking is going to be around Orland, (I'm serious-unless he is one of the corporate sponsers, they will park and be shuttled in) he may want to take the train out from downtown. My understanding is that there will be an entrance at, or by, the station. So, he may do just as well downtown at one of the traditional old Chicago restaurants. Ginos, (while at a new location) is still down there, as is Pizza Uno and Duo.
Oh yes, definately recommend Maggianos, though they are more pasta than pizza.

Yikes! That's one place I'm not a fan of ... Waiting 1-1/2 hours to be served a single pizza? Come on, folks! I know deep dish takes longer, but geez!

I miss my good ol' super-thin New York style pizza. That's definitely one thing that Chicago can never replace! ;)

Patio, Magianos in Old Orchard Mall is a good Italian restaurant, but I also vote for the Cheesecake Factory on the other side of the mall. Yummy!

Thanks so much for all your help!!
I helped Dh do a search for a place called Aurelio's, which he used to frequent, and claims they have the best pizza. So, he'll eat there one night and see if he can have some frozen pizzas sent home. Anyone familiar with this place? It could have changed since dh lived there.
He is definitely going to try Maggiano's, which is right near his hotel, and sounds like great food.
The 3rd night he's not sure yet, but he loves Pizzeria Uno ( took us there twice at WDW ) and says The Cheesecake Factory is really good.

Otimon, dh used to caddy there. His uncle worked there, too, so he is really looking forward to this trip, as it has been many years since he's been back. He once caddied for John Cook and has a good friend, Ted Tryba, that is a pro golfer.

Thanks again everyone!!!!:D

There is an Aurelios a few miles north of Olympia, in Flosmor. There is also one in Mokena, which is probably not going to be very far from where he parks, if he drives to the Open and parks in the general lot. They are good. The kids love the place (older teens) and we've been there with them a few times. Good pizza. I imagine, like everyplace else, they have a web site. Check for it. I would guess that there are some up north towards Skokie, but couldn't tell you where.
