My DD and her DH just found out they're going to have a baby, after doing a home pregnancy test. Great news!! Everyone is thrilled!! But, she has been experiencing some cramping so they went to the doctor yesterday and "just to rule out" a tubal pregnancy they sent her for an ultrasound which she had this morning. The baby is where he/she should be, so we are very, very thankful for that. But, she won't get the full results of the ultrasound for a "few days" so we don't yet know why she's having some cramping.

I was just wondering if any of you here had cramping early on in your pregnancy, and if you did, what was the cause? I had two children and never had cramping with either of my pregnancies.

Trying not to worry, but it's hard not to when you "don't know..."

I did, with both my pregnancies. Achey menstrual type cramps, not painful spasms and no spotting.

It was a little scary, but I was assured that everything was OK and it can be normal. As I remember, they went away in the second trimester - just in time for other pains to kick in!

Congrats!!

Thanks for your response, two4ruff. Her cramps sound similar to what you said yours were, so hopefully I'm just "worrying about nothing." :teeth: They've been married almost 4 years and I've been so anxious to get a grandbaby out of 'em (but I kept my nose out of their business and never said anything). She's only 5 weeks along and I can hardly wait until it gets here!!!

I had horrible cramping very early with both DD's. It was like severe period cramps. It's pretty normal from what I've been told, it's a little alarming when it happens though!

I also had spotting with DD #1, between that and the cramping I was a basket case. But she's two and a half and just fine!

This one it wasn't as bad, but I'm still coming to grips that I actually got pregnant on the first cycle of trying and it's real!

Good luck to your DD!!

I did, at about 6 weeks - my son is now eleven. I had another scare with him as well when they saw pools of blood on the ultrasound at 13 weeks. They absorbed and it was fine. Pregnancy is scary sometimes!

I also had them with both my pregnancies. That is how I found out I was preggers the first time. My doctor was having blood tests done in case I had to have an emergency surgery as we were moving accross the country the day after Christmas. Well, he called me Christmas Eve laughing. Here, my "cyst" was DS#1 Michael. I have polycystic ovarian disease and had long gaps between periods. They told me I would have a hard time getting pregnant. Well, I showed them!

My OB told me it was the hormones of pregnancy causing the ligaments to stretch. Some people have trouble with it and others' don't. With pregnancy #2 I felt it right away and knew I was pregnant a couple days after conceiving. I know, that sounds weird but I did.

It did go away just about the time you start feeling kicking. That was the worst thing I had, no nausea or anything like that so I was okay with it.

I remember feeling very crampy around the time I should have gotten my period when I was pg. It was normal menstual feeling cramps and no spotting. I was so sure that TOM was right around the corner but DS is now 4 so I guess I was wrong ;) . I hope all works out well for your dd.

I, too, had achy menstrual-like cramps during my first trimester--sometimes they really hurt! I also spotted some at the beginning of my 6th month. It can be alarming when things like this happen, and it's good your dd got checked out--I am betting she'll be just fine!

Congratulations on your darling grand-bundle, and best wishes to your dd for a happy, healthy pregnancy!:D

I remember having cramps early on and I called my Dr right away...he told me not to worry that it was probably implantation and that would cause some cramping....

I was just reading a thread about this on a pregnancy board (not that I visit pregnancy boards ;) ) and apparently it can be a multitude of things - ligaments stretching, the baby implanting further, gas, etc. So try not to worry!

Thanks, everyone. It really helps to know that others had this same thing happen. Not that I'm GLAD it happened to you, but...well, you know what I mean...:p It just helps to know what she is experiencing sounds like a normal thing, and hopefully it will prove to be "nothing to worry about." Thanks, all! :flower:

I spotted and had light cramps with my DS who is now 3.5. I unfortunately started spotting heavily with # 2 last oct and had a m/c at 8 weeks.

My SIL had a similar spotting and she was fine.

I've learned that there's nothing you can do to stop it if it's going to be a MC, so just try and tell her to relax.

I had both cramping and light spotting at 6 weeks with both of my kids. They did an ultrasound said everything looked fine and sent me home to bed to relax for the rest of the day. Everything turned out fine, but I was a nervous wreck and it was next to impossible to "relax."

Best wishes.

I had horrible cramps a few weeks ago. Went in for my annual check up and was told I was pregnant. I have PCOS too, so it is not an easy thing for me to be and remain! I lost a baby in between my DDs, but so far this seems to be going well. I had an U/S done Wednesday and there is a little heartbeat. My OB said once you see that it is very rare to have a MC, so we are praying all continues to go well!

Sending extra pixie dust, thoughts and prayers for you also, ahutton.
