Has anyone used their DVC points for RCI in Punta Cana? I was looking at some of the resorts, but I am a bit confused about the mandatory fee for "all inclusive". Is this a cost on top of using your points? And it states those staying less than a week must call ahead of time for a pro-rated amount.

You pay the all inclusive fee in addition to your points. Not sure about the less than a week

I would price out any all-inclusive resort for cash before trading the points. Once you pay the all-inclusive fee on top of the points, you often pay as much in cash as you would have booking in cash via a discount agency (like a Costco or similar), and that's before factoring in point value.

There was a post recently on a DVC Facebook page where the person used points for an all inclusive. The fee that they paid on top of their points was greater than their family member paid for the same trip with flights included.

That's ridiculous. After my initial posting I looked at a package at the same resort with airfare was about half the cost. I don't like that it is mnadatory. I think I will save those points and look at another alternative.

Rent the points out and take the cash and pay for the all inclusive that way :)

No one pay rack, but on a point trade you pay rack and exchange fee and more. Nasty truth about this "benefit."

In most cases the AI fee is massive. I've seen them over $2K per person. These exchanges through RCI non DVC are cheap and plentiful. This is the worst case scenario for using DVC points, FAR worse than using for a cruise or ABD. In many cases one can get the entire thing on cash including air for the AI fee alone and not use DVC points. There are also some resorts where they charge you based on the occupancy even if you don't have that many. There is GREAT variability in AI resorts, including quality and add ons, one needs to KNOW what they're getting into.

As posted almost daily, using points for anything other that staying at a DVC resort is usually an expensive use of points.

Just because Disney allows you to use the points, doesn't make it a good deal.

RCI AI fees are notoriously high, and almost never a good deal---even if you are exchanging in with a low-cost no-name timeshare.
