go to a buffet/family style meal and pack some food away for later?? I saw a thread about this somewhere but dont want to get in trouble at the restaurant for doing it. I was thinking of packing some throw away tupperware and saving some food for later. Any thoughts??

No, I have never taken tupperware to a buffet. I would think the restaurant would frown on it.

No. I've taken a piece of whole fruit from the breakfast buffet, but never containters.

Like the PP said, I would imagine they'd frown upon it.

The last time we went to a buffett there was a sign stating taking food from the buffett was shoplifting.

A buffet is all you can eat right then. Not all you can eat all day. I'm not trying to be rude but no I would not do that. You will probably get in trouble too if caught.

It's not allowed, but once it's on your plate, they're going to throw it away anyway. That's just wasteful. I've seen people do it. I was at a buffet once in Atlantic City, and there was a woman there who kept going up to the buffet (breakfast) and would start reading her paper, but as she was reading, she would "discreetly" (we saw her) put ALL the food into ziplocs. She did this several times - we think maybe she was feeding a large family at home. LOL I'll admit to taking a banana or apple that we just couldn't eat...shame to let them toss it. (Don't arrest me, please!) I wouldn't fill my plate w/ the intention of doing it though.

Was no one suspicious of the pile of empty plates on the table?

Now, when I was in college. some friends of mine would go to our local Denny's for the All You Could Eat, and we'd bring our books and stay for hours. Eat something. Study a little. Get a snack. Study some more. Have lunch. We were quiet though and respectful of the other customers and staff. There were never people waiting for tables because of us. We also left a pretty good tip to make up for the lack of customers rotating through that table. However, I would never put food on my plate with the intention of takingit out of the restaurant.

LOL If I remember right, I think she used the same plate over and over again. I couldn't believe no one else saw her. I only did cause I happened to glance over and had a good view of the seat next to her.

Whenever my kids ask me if something is ok, or I myself am questioning something, I always try to think "if everyone did this, would it be ok?" and that can usually give me my answer as to what's the right thing to do. Think about if everyone, or lots of people, did the tupperware or baggie thing - restaurants would have to charge SO much more than they do. I myself wouldn't do this.

eek! dont get mad I was just asking because I think I asked someone what was with bringing ziploc baggies and they told me to bring food back from ts meals..lol.. If we order a pizza or something then I would probably save it in the tupperware but i'm the kinda person who doesnt even like to go up more than once to a buffet! The idea of someone "stashing" food is a funny thought though ...lol

I don't think anyone was getting "mad". I think they were just answering your question.

Ordering a pizza is not the same as filling tupperware from a buffet. Generally when you order a pizza, you have paid for the whole pizza. When you go to a buffet, you have not paid for the whole buffet. It is one thing to put your "leftover" steak in a ziploc. It is a whole other thing to take food from the buffet with the intent to "store" it away for later.

Like another poster said- if everyone did that-just THINK what Disney would charge for those Buffets!!!!!:scared1:

I think if you were at a ts meal and ordered a pizza or another entree and you could not eat it all, the restaurant would probably have containers to pack your leftovers for you, but I would say no to packing food away at a buffet

I think I'd scratch that tupperware idea! :rotfl: IMHO I see no harm in a piece of fruit or two, but I would think that loading yourself up would be considered a no no.

Taking a piece of fruit with me is as far as i'd go. A few years back we went to HDDR with a large group. I was mortified when I glanced down the table and saw my friend's mother stashing tons of chicken into ziploc baggies in her lap. I wanted to crawl under the table and die. Needless to say it was the last time we invited them to join us at a meal. Maybe its just me but I figure if you can't eat it while your there then your pretty much out of luck.

I think this could be a good rule of thumb:

If a restaurant is OK with you bringing food out, they'll have take out containers for you-- "Doggy bags" or whatever else you want to call them. There is no need to supply your own.

I'm pretty sure the buffets have no such containers. It's "all you can eat" while you're there, not for the length of your stay in Disney.

At Jiko, I once took a banana out, and that is all I would ever take from a buffet.

I don't think it is really acceptable to take out large amounts of food. I do confess to taking the occasional piece of banana cake (only ever 1 per visit) from the ponderosa as it is my favorite (we don't have poderosa in the UK so it is my one treat).

Whenever my kids ask me if something is ok, or I myself am questioning something, I always try to think "if everyone did this, would it be ok?" and that can usually give me my answer as to what's the right thing to do.

I read this not too long ago and I've been using it on my kids ever since, with all their, "But so-and-so...": “Wrong is wrong even if everybody is doing it and right is right even if nobody is doing it.”

I get that was not your particular intent to say if others are doing it, it must be OK, but I just couldn't resist putting it out there for those (probably lurking) who might think that makes it OK.

“Thank you”, “please”, “excuse me” are just always right, as is not stealing food from a buffet. If it's off your plate and you took it with good intentions to eat it at the time, say a piece of fruit or two, then fine. But you shouldn't, under those circumstances, have an issue asking the server for something to put it in. If you can't do it openly and need to "sneak" (not that the OP said that), your answer is right there whether or not it's OK.

I have on occassion taken a few pieces of desert back which i dont find anything wrong with. Now i didnt take tupperware, but wrapped in a napkin. I think this should be fine to do especially if you have no appetite for desert right after eating. I know you think for the prices they charge they should let you take a goodie bag home.

Sadly, my mother-in-law has OCD and this past Christmas when we took her to Disney she waited patiently for my 3 kids to finish their drinks. Then she promptly filled each cup with food. I was mortified.

We were on the DP so, we had plenty of opportunities to eat. We were also staying at ASMo so there was no fridge. It was so disgusting because she just hid the cups in the drawer in her room. On the last day she tried to put them in my SIL suitcase. My SIL said no and my MIL was furious with her.

I know this is not what you are asking about but I had to share my story. It is such a sad situation because I know she has a serious problem with hording. I wonder if the lady that another poster saw had OCD and was food hording.

I think if the server offers a box to take food from a meal then it's okay. If they do not, then it's not okay.
