Anyone ever warned about PO's 5th person?

It is true. Port Orleans Riverside cannot be booked for a party of 5 if everyone is over the age of 10. Disney's system will not allow it any longer. Even if you have a child under 5' tall if they are 10 or older the system will kick it out. I know in the past you could do this though.

That trunde bed is very small and really is geared for a small child. I think the new conditions for booking that took effect in January, but I'm not 100% positive.

Again I booked for April 2006 last month for 3 adults DS15 and DS11 online and then changed to a call-in ressie because I forgot to add the meal plan. I also just went all the way through an on-line ressie (up to entering credit card) as a test and it let me book again. I'd try again or book online.

KeepSwimming,

Unfortunately it wasn't me. If I ever get a teaching job in Fl., I'll never leave. As I write this I'm looking out the window at 2 inches of Pa. snow. Some day. maybe.

I agree that getting the evening EMH would be out for a 5th, but there's always someone in our party who forgets their room key and they've always gotten right in with the rest of us.

Loved the comments about Sunday School! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

By the way, before you needed all these room keys for EMH admission. My husband, mother, her two friends and I stayed there, my husband slept in the trundel.

I get so angry about all of their "changes" cause it's all in an effort to make more money. LIke the children's menu being lowered to age 9. No wonder why so many little kids are fat, let's encourage them to order large portions so WDW corporate can make $$$$.

Okay I'm done venting!

EJandMD, I agree with you. It's all about the $$ w/ WDW. But you gotta love them. This is the first time I'm taking DNieces and DNephew, 5 of us total. I was shocked that not any of the Values had rooms for five and only one moderate had rooms for 5. It's usually just two of us so I never had the need to inquire about a room for five in the past. I still haven't decided where we're going to stay. I love CSR and Shades of Green (my-ex was in the military). So now I'm trying to suck up to my cousin who is military to go with us. LOL!!! :rotfl: I've never stayed off site but I must admit, I'm now looking at that option as well.

Really?? I guess this shouldn't surprise me but that means I can't sneak my daughter in for under 18 since we've stayed on property twice before!! Please don't flame me, you all have done that already!! As with the the trundle bed which should be available to any family of 5 if they are willing to use it, I hate to pay an additional $15 per night. We are a FAMILY, you know, Mom, Dad, 2.5 kids (ok, no .5). Do we get more or better service because DD is over 18?

Ok, venting over

I think it is 10 a night for value, 15 for mods and a wooping 25 for deluxe! 2 kids ages 18 and 21 would be 50 extra bucks a night. That really adds up! I really think it should be ages 21 and up. That would be best for everyone (except Disney that is, but really I think they are making enough money, and I own Disney stock!)

We stayed at POR this spring and were not warned at all. We are a family of five, kids were 19, 17 and 13. My kids took turns on the trundle and my 17 yr old is 6'3" and he even took his turn ...imagine that. Just like someone else said, once your are at WDW nothing matters, the kids have such a good time and are so tired by the end of the day that they are just happy to go to sleep.

There was nothing said to me at the time of booking. All I can think of is that perhaps they have had a lot of complaints because people assume it is the same size as a single bed, so they are heading off any problem before the complaints come in. We were so happy to have a reasonably priced room for the 5 of us and a beautiful resort.

:earsgirl:

My ADULT cousins slept on this trundle in June...both well over 5 feet and they LOVED it! So, a child should be just fine on it.

Actually, it works the other way. As a matter of courtesy to families with young children, resorts often either discount for young children staying in the same room as their parents, or don't charge for young children at all. So once the children get older, the courtesy discount is no longer applicable.

When faced with this a few years back I solved the problem by booking for 4 and taking an inflatable bed. At POR such a bed will fit nicely between the door and the bed nearest the door. Deflate in the morning and put it back in the suitcase. Expect to be scolded here that it's against the rules/buildingcode/God'sWill. I'm offering advice, not a Sunday School lesson.

I hear ya! I wanted to do the same thing at the AKL. I posted on another board mt intention just to see if anyone else tried this and only got one positive reply and it was a PM.

Huh?? We have 5 in our group and only 2 resort keys and we always go to early entry with only one adult showing a key. We go every morning to the park with early entry - we have done this more than 60 times over the past few years with no problems at all. :cool1:
Now that each key is indvidually named each key is scanned to do early entry or emh at night. You will each need a key.

I wonder if this qualifies as yet-another case of exploitation of leniency driving a policy change making something more tedious for everyone. :confused3

Bicker-- no I think it's just a matter of Disney hearing about a loophole and realizing that they can make money off of it, then they market it in a positive way to make you feel like your getting a deal or making everyone feeling special.

What's odd is that most of the corners that I have cut in the past have been suggested to me by castmembers.

Same as HopperFan here. This past July we were refused a booking for 5 at POR because everyone was over the age of 10. It didn't make a difference that one was small enough to use the trundle.

We ended up with 2 rooms and actually had a blast.

seeing as I just booked a few months ago with 5 at POR all over 10, I think it might be another case of the quality of the castmember you book thru. How many time have we called Disney and been told something we know is wrong, only to call back, get someone different (and knows what they are talking about)and get what we want. And after having spent 4 hours on the phone yesterday to a call center in India, let's all be thankful that Disney hasn't outsourced their business.

Good point. Some of the CMs may be unaware of the restriction or simply fail to apply it.

I use to be a manager there all you have to do is tell them that you want Alligator and then that you have 4 people and they will be none the wiser!!!

Unless you want to take advantage of Early Entry. And I could go on about how if every person did that the pool would be too busy to use, the busses too full, the food court overrun with guests who are not accounted for, but that might start trouble. :p

I don't think it is a restriction. If you go to their website and click through it says 5. I was clicking through and I put the ages in. I tried to see if I could go to Pop Century and was denied due to so many people (5). I tried the same at a couple other hotels where I knew we wouldn't fit and it denied us. I can do it at PO. If their CMs are unaware, so is their webmaster.
