Anyone ever warned about PO's 5th person?

Of course some may be requesting other things that are restricting them getting them. For example if the room assignment teams see that a guest wants Oak Manor and connecting rooms and that is not available; I am not sure they then try to find connecting rooms in any building or try to give them the building of choice.
I thought someone listed the priorities given to special requests once. Does anyone else remember that? Like, connecting room before specific building, wheelchair access before smoking preference, etc. Or did I just dream that?

The problem is and this has happened to some that post here on the DIS, is CRO or actually the Disney Reservation Center (DRC) will guarantee this but some have gotten to the hotel to find out they did not have the rooms connecting. As Disney does not block them out at the time of the reservation; they do that when they assign rooms. If they don't have any available for the dates you need you don't get them. I know it does not happen often, but it does happen.

I always advise those that need connecting rooms to make this your only request other than possible NS.

I see what you are saying and that anything is possible but I'm not going to worry too much about them not having connecting rooms for us. After all, POR has about 2,000 rooms right? (At least that's what I read somewhere). The rooms are assigned a couple days in advance. I think they'd do anything in their power to get connecting rooms since you know they can't want under-aged kids in a room by themselves. If anything if they don't have ANY then they should try to find you connecting rooms at another moderate. I can totally understand you can't expect to get connecting rooms in a specific building or have a bunch of other requests.

Yes they will definitely try and the chances of not getting one are slim. However as long as there are 2 adults in the group they do know that they can split them up and not have under aged kids in a room by themselves.

Disney REFUSED to book POR for my family because my petite DD was over the age of 9 (she is 12). She would have fit better than most 9 year olds and I explained this.......but she absolutely refused to book it and gave me my two room or deluxe options. She said it had nothing to do with size, it was her age. :confused3

My youngest is still young enough (DD7), even though I slept on the trundle bed (boy it sure seemed comfy to me - a sorta chubby, 5'5" and a half tall, arthritic 35 yr old mama then again I say after a day at WDW I could sleep standing on my head in the bathtub with the Boston Symphony Orchestra playing Ode to Joy in the bathroom with me). My kids are very small for their ages, DS11 weighs under 60lbs and was questioned at Epcot about his "adult" ticket because he looks about 8. It seems to me that basing it on size as opposed to age would be more appropriate it this case.

So if your willing NOT to attend the EMH's you can save money by not registering the 18 year old as an adult in your party. But how much do you save, $10.00 a night for any adult in the room after 2 or can it be $50.00 a night?

I think we may all have missed the point :goodvibes

This is Disney's solution to managing the population explosion:

3 kids max per couple - but when they reach the grand old age of 9 send 'em out to work to earn their own Disney Vacation. :cool1:

Forgive me if this has been asked before (I didn't read every post, just first & last page), but when did the PO-R become a resort for 5 only if 5th is child under 9? I may sound strange asking this, but I have never had a problem there. As a matter of fact, I have slept on that trundle & it wasn't that bad & I am 5'6", sure my feet hung off but that was about it (my kids were fighting over it so I took it & they got stuck with the bed one night :rotfl: ) The resort use to be advertised as a resort that could hold 5 & never mentioning that the 5th must be a child under 9??? Is this due to them renovating & getting smaller trundles maybe :confused3 . I know the meals cut the child's age off at 9, but never heard of the resorts.. either they are under 18 & considered free with you or under 3 and you can have that one plus a total of 4 in a resort that holds 4... this is the first I am hearing of being under 9.

That would be true if rooms were remaining empty due to their lack of trying harder to accomodate the connecting rooms request. However I don't think that is the case, hence the reason they have not offered more options.

I truly think what some of the DIS complain about whether it be the price of CRT, or the cost of rooms for over 4 guests, or BRP, is that they want Disney to cater to them, personally instead of someone else.

As long as Disney can fill CRT with the price increase, keep their rooms filled with families of 4, and have success with BRP on their standards Disney is successful.
The room are not always full to capacity anyway. Infact, there are times that the resorts are so slow, they close sections down. They do not fill up due to "slow season" (not for families of 5 not booking). Take 9/11...for a long time after the rooms were not filled up. There was a point that half of PO-R & all of PO-FQ were closed...Disney claimed it was renovations but they hadn't even started them. Look at Pop..they delayed finishing the first section for nearly a year because business was so slow. They still haven't finished the second section & it doesn't look as if they are anytime soon. That has nothing to due with them being more accomadating for connecting rooms or offering other options for a family of 5. Money is the bottom line for them. If they can talk you into staying at one of the deluxes becasue you have a family of 5...that is more money in their pocket.
What they don't realize is that if they had more options for families of 5, they would make more money.. maybe not on the room but food wise they would. It doesn't cost that much more to have a 5th person stay in the same room as you. An extra towel, wash cloth & set of sheets (and they don't change the sheets everyday), and maybe a little extra for water, that is about it. If they allow under the age of 9 at PO-R, they are already incurring those extra costs...so what is the difference if they are 10? Do they use more water??

Disney is suppose to be (or at least when Walt built it) a family park, unfortunatly it isn't anymore... to those that have posted that most hotels are for 4... well I don't think that is true.. I have a family of 5 & when we travel together I never had a problem getting a room for all of us... including PO-R... especially when it was known as DxL and at one point all of my children became over the age of 9. They are now... 13, 17 & 19.

We stayed there as a family of 4 and when I mentioned a need for a trundle bed because my two DS won't sleep with each other they told me they were over 9 and would not fit on the trundle bed. However when I checked in I asked the front for a trundle bed and was given one without fuss and my DS's took turns on it. They were both 12 and 13 at the time. princess:

I was curious so I went onto the web site & put in a party of 5, 2A & 3 C ages 13 13 & 17 to see what would happen. It let me go to book it & never said anything about the 5th person.. it showed the other mods as having to change my party size... so you can book it online that way... if you can book that way, they shouldn't turn you away upon check in?????
Just goes back to the same as everything else... one hand never knows what the other is doing when booking....there is no consistency with Disney

I am not sure the OP was being warned that she could not book this room category due to the age of the child, but just a warning that the bed is small. I think they have had complaints from guests expecting a larger bed.

I think I'm the OP (Don't know what it means) since I started this thread. To briefly recap: I was booking over the phone and the CM said I couldn't because my youngest was too old. I said we've stayed there before, etc. She said that she was warning me. I was agitated so I finally asked her if they would turn me away at checkin and she said no. I told her to book it and that was that. She never clarified what she was warning me about, even when I asked. She did start pushing the deluxes and was appalled that I didn't get the meal deal. Reflecting, I am sure she was on commission or trying to meet a quota. Her final comment when I turned down the travel insurance was, "You're not taking it and you're coming to Florida in the hurricane season. Are you SURE?" What can I say? We live dangerously without meal plans and travel insurance. Oooohhhhh!!!! :rotfl2:

I think I may have hung up and called again for another CM. Everytime I have called for anything the CM has been patient, careful, helpful, etc. Who needs that frustration?
