DD18 is trying to find a job that pays a decent amount before she heads off to college. A friend of hers told her about www.care.com. it's a site that matches nannys/babysitters/housekeepers (etc) to families looking for them.

DD18 has applied for several positions that she was interested in. She had to pass a background check, but I don't know if the people posting the jobs do. I'm concerned about sending her into someone's home that we know nothing about!

What are your thoughts on this? Anything we can do?

I don't know about care.com but we used nannies4hire.com to find two of our nannies.

They did do a background check on the potential candidates but we didn't have to. I did ask the women we interviewed to come to my house. Since that is where they would work. I could give them a tour of the home and see how they interact with my children in that setting. I guess I never thought of their safety but I can see how that would be a concern.

I did a phone interview with each of them before hand so I would be a little leery of anyone they didn't speak to before hand. You would also want to have the address she is going to and have her check in when she can (maybe excuse herself to go to the restroom and text you?).

Good luck to your daughter and her job hunt!

No idea about that website but do you have an amusement park anywhere near you? DS18 is working at one and they are looking for more females for park services jobs. It is possible there is something like that near you? If not she can come to MN and work, it's $50/month to stay in the dorm.

DH is going with her this morning to meet the 1st family that wants to interview her in person. She explained to them that he wanted to meet them, and they seemed fine with it.

A 2nd job that has expressed interest in her seems too good to be true... $10/hr late at night, kids will be sleeping. That one struck me as fishy. I hate that I don't trust people, but I just want to protect her.

Golfgal, she's going to college in upstate NY... I'm not ready to send her away yet! No MN for her! And living in TX, outside jobs aren't really the best. :sunny:
