Anyone Ever Split a 4 Night Stay between WDW and Universal?

Okay, here's the scenario. The last two times I've been to Orlando, I've stayed at RPR. My husband was unable to travel with us those two times and has never stayed at RPR (only PB and HRH). We are taking a quick trip over Labor Day and he would like to stay at RPR because he doesn't like to stand in the lines. I would like to stay at Boardwalk Inn at WDW because I haven't stayed at Disney in a while. Would it make any sense to stay two nights at BWI and then move over to RPR? I think the crowds at WDW will be lighter the first two days we get there and we won't have to worry about the crowds at Universal because of FOTL.

We will have a car so that's not a problem. I know it's a hassle to move, but it could work. (I don't think he'll like the idea, however, because it's not as relaxing as checking in and staying put. It may be a hard sell. He is indulging me with this trip. I love this stuff, he can take or leave it.)

Any thoughts?

I have stayed at the RPR for 2 nights then moved over to WDW... but for 11 nights. What I did was pack a bag for the RPR portion of the stay & then the rest were all for the WDW portion. Made my switch easier...

I did a three way move- WL (2 days) to RPH (1 night) to WL (2) to YC (3). We didn't check out of the WL, but it was a lot of moving. I found it was fine. I did what the previous poster did-- I packed strategically and had a small bag for the first three WL& RPH days and another bag for the rest of the trip. It was fabulous for us, since we got to be as efficient as possible by being on-site. The trip between resorts was painless. And we got to experience a few hotels, which for us is part of the trip.

Hope this helps!

I've done WL for 2 and PBH for 2 but I have also done HRH for 1 and RPR for 1 with just the kids.

Thanks for your replies.

I decided to go with two nights at the Boardwalk Inn and two nights at RPR. It's the best of both worlds (so to speak :D )

Seems like you know what you are doing.
When you check out of BWI and drive to RPR, your room probably won't be ready until 5pm. Many are noticing this pattern of rooms not being ready until late in the afternoon.
I'd suggest you pre-check in to the RPR, get your magic keys, head to a park, then come back to the pool for a few hours until your room is ready.

Yes, we've been to the parks many times. Actually, we are going to have breakfast at the Crystal Palace at the Magic Kingdom early Friday morning. We will do as much as we can at MK before it gets crowded. We will then head over to RPR, get our keys (as you say, we probably won't get our rooms until later) and head over to one of the Universal Parks. The parks aren't open very late, so after the parks close we'll have dinner at Tchoup Chop. On Saturday we will go back to the Universal parks and find time to get over to the Cheesecake Factory at Mall at Millenia for a bite to eat.

It's going to be big fun. It will be short, but sweet.

Thanks for your thoughts!

We just got back from 3 nights at the HRH, followed by 2 nights at the Swan. I think it would have been much better for us to start at Disney, then go to Universal because we were TOTALLY SPOILED with the FOTL.

I don't know if they're still doing this at the Swan/Dolphin, but they were offering a free room upgrade and a late checkout of 4:00 as a late summer special. You might want to check that out. We ended up paying only $139/night at the Swan with a pool view and balcony. It was a pleasant walk to the BW and the Yacht/ Beach Club. It was a short boat ride to MGM, and we also took the boat from Epcot to the Swan. Very convenient and I couldn't believe the price!
