Anyone ever seen any incidents at bag check?

I feel like this thread will create nothing but fear and paranoia...

The common story so far seems to be:

"Person X attempts to bring in contraband/bypasses regular security checks. Disney discovers contraband/security issue. Disney calmly and professionally handles said issue." If anything it's giving me confidence in my safety in Disney parks.

Does anyone else feel that bag check is too close to the turnstiles? On our trip in June I started questioning why it's so close to the entrances. Also, why can't there be a bag check at TTC?

I tend to refill my bottled water in the parks instead of buying a new one, but to cover the FL water taste I use flavor drops or powder packs. Well, I don't use the iced tea flavor anymore.............I was stopped park hopping to HS a while back, bag checker though it was booze in a Dasani bottle. I was mortified, never thought little old me would be stopped for smuggling liquor! I just wasn't thinking of anything close to that. Security checker did believe me that is was iced tea after a sniff test, but nicely warned that in the future might want a different flavor for my water if I didn't want to repeat that scenario. Was all done calmly and respectfully, and I do understand that they have to check so many people so quickly to keep the lines moving that anyone in doubt would be stopped, just wasn't thinking that iced tea not in an iced tea bottle would trigger anything.

i don't know if this counts, but one time when we were at MCO, leaving security to go to our flight. as soon as we left line a woman was stopped next to us with security and police officers around her, being the very nosy person i am, i looked on the bag's x-ray thing and there was a weird shaped object in her mickey mouse plush toy. i still don't know what it was to this day, but we ran out of there when we saw that.

I haven't personally seen anything, but while having my stuff checked this past May at HS, I had my 2 year old's diaper changer.. security asked me to open it, which is something they hadn't done before. I told them what was in it, as I let them look through it, and the guard told me that about 20 minutes before we came to the line, someone was trying to smuggle liquor through their child's "dirty" diaper. I shook my head, thanked him for doing what he does (like I do with all of them.. it's a tough job), and went on about my day. I can only imagine the things they see/have to deal with on a daily basis. I think if I were to see something (and I hope I don't), I would be pretty happy as Disney is very diligent on keeping all guests as safe as they possibly can. I know I'm not 100% safe anywhere, but I sure as heck feel a lot safer when I'm in Disney, than anywhere else.

Forget enjoying the parks. After reading all these, I am going to bring a chair and popcorn, sit near the check points and enjoy the soap opera........

This is funny! I was actually a little paranoid about bringing in my prescription Motrin and zofran (for Crohn's induced nausea). I thought it may look like I was a pill-head...or they may question if that was actually what was in the bottles. It sounds like people try to sneak things in in all kinds of ways, lol.

I haven't seen or experienced anything at bag check, but I can say that the security is a lot tighter than we all think it is. There are layers upon layers of checks and surveillance going on. There may not be a safer public place than WDW.

About 5 or so years ago the TSA found a loaded revolver inside a childs stuffed animal at Orlando International.

During our two week trip, we were shocked at how many selfie sticks we still saw inside the parks. There was a couple using one right inside of the turnstiles. I did see their selfie stick table by security, where people could leave them to claim after the parks, but in each park, I still saw several people using them.

My uncle carries a pocket knife everywhere, and he tends to forget he has it with him. At Christmas, he accidentally had it with him. He beeped going through the detectors, but they finally determined it must just be his belt buckle. Later, he was fishing through his pocket to discover he had it with him. The same thing happened last week. He's there a lot, and normally remembers, but it's odd that he was able to get in not once, but twice, with a pocketknife.

Just curious. We were just at WDW from July 1-8 and on the afternoon of the 3rd, as we approached a bag check table at Epcot we were asked to go to the next table over. At about that time about 4-5 officers surrounded the table and began questioning the guy whose bag they had been checking. I heard them tell him that they couldn't allow him to take a blade in the park that was more than 4 inches long. He was arguing with them about it, but was also answering their questions calmly. They asked him if he was staying on property and, if so, where. He said he was staying at "Riverside" (same as us). I don't know what ended up happening because I continued in to the park as soon as my bag was checked, but I'm assuming it was resolved. This just made me wonder how many others have seen something similar.

I guess I just don't understand this. A guy trying to enter a park with a knife whose blade is more than 4inches and then arguing about it. The 9/11 planes where taken down with nothing more than a box cutter. The bottom line if you are told no then its no. Its not your park, you don't set the rules and by buying a ticket you are agreeing to the terms and conditions set by Disney. If you don't like it go somewhere else....Please

When we were at HS, the gentleman in front of us had an entire chefs knife kit. We are talking some serious knives. He said he was a temp for one of the rest, but he was entering through the main line not the cast member entrance. He was pulled to the side and told to wait while we were search and allowed on. Someone made a boo boo on their first day. Though i must say he has some nice knives. I might have drooled a little.

He was a temp for a restuarant, not sure i believe this at all. First i am sure, if he was a temp, that we he was told how he had to enter the park. I am sure that at the CM entrance they would have his name and information, actually i would be surprised that he was not required to secure a CM Temp ID before even going to the park. And why does someone need to bring their own knives to their job I am sure Disney has all knives they need in each restaurant. Something seems very suspect about this one.

A lot of chef's have their own set of knives because they're used to working with them, so that's actually not so weird, but going in thru the main entrance...

My wife's finger wouldn't scan on the reader and after about the 5th time of trying they had a CM come over with a Sheriff, check her ID, scan her magic band, and take her picture with an IPad.

Every time we went to enter the parks we had to let them know that her finger wouldn't scan. They'd call a CM with an IPad over, scan her magic band, and make sure her picture matched.

It wasn't nothing to make an issue out of but boy if people didn't look at my wife like she had done something wrong. It embarrassed her to the point she almost didn't want to go to the parks anymore.

We talked to guest services and Disney handled it in a very appropriate way to where it wouldn't make my wife feel embarrassed anymore.

Forget what year it was, probably August 2012, we were going thru security at MK and the woman ahead had her bags being checked and they found bear spray. She said it was her son's and he came over to the table. The security said he couldn't take it into the park and asked if he wanted to take back to their vehicle or room. They declined the offer and security had someone come over and collect it.

This happened to a few of my family members this trip, including my 13 year old son. And, somehow, halfway through the trip, my SIL's band became attached to her 5 year old nephew's and vice versa.

This was in April 2016. But the original CM that handled (and all the rest after for that matter) were very professional. The only reason they brought the sheriff over was in case there was an instance of fraud.

After the 2nd or 3rd gate we went through we decided to talk to guest services to see if there was anything they could do and they told us that after we went through the security check point at any park, go straight over to where the metal detector was and let a security officer or the CM with the IPad know what was going on and they would happily and discreetly run her magic band there instead of at the gate.

This was at Epcot, in Oct 2015. Pre-metal detectors. It wasn't as bad at the others but it was embarrassing at the gates, just not to the extent that the 1st time was at Epcot.
