Anyone ever lived in an urban loft? LINK ADDED

I looked at one today to buy and it was awesome.

Anyone have any experience and comments?

It was fabulous and fabulously expensive! It overlooks our downtown main street area which is now a pedestrian mall. Lots of action, restaurants, theater, near a beautiful lake.

I could take the free shuttle to work everyday!

I would post a link but I'm afraid someone will snatch it from me. I expect to be embroiled in a bidding war as it is. DH didn't see it yet as he was working all day. I am taking him to see it tomorrow. We looked at another one a few weeks ago and it was sold before we got there!

I'm so excited I cannot think about anything else.

Oh, my God!! It's beautiful!! Jump on it!! I would just put a bid on it!! I would think that would be gone in a minute so you don't want to loose out. The area looks nice to. The price is great too. Could you imagine what that would be in Manhattan? Probably a million!! Good luck and I hope you get it.

I live in Washington D.C. in the historic urban area of Georgetown. Not in a loft, but a very tall and narrow townhouse. Its more than 100 years old. There are many benefits to living in an urban area and many cons that may make it less desirable for some. We enjoy being close to everything, being able to walk or catch a cab or take the metro (subway) to wherever we want to go. However, we have no yard for the kids to play in (a park right down the street though!). Parking is horrendous if you own a car, which we own three of and 1 motorcyle. Very very seldom do I get a spot directly outside my door, even though the parking is zoned. You don't have any of your larger chain stores like Target or Walmart nearby - more speciality shops. Its loud and bustling for many hours of the day.

We've considered moving to the suburbs for years, ever since having kids, but then we always decide we can't bear it and stay put. Urban living is not for everyone, but we like it.

DH says if he's going to live in a condo, he wants to buy the one we are renting. It's okay (actually it's very nice and spacious), but I am looking for something special with a bit of an edge.

Our kids are grown and gone, but we are only in our 40's and a bit hip. He LOVES downtown so I figured he would go nuts over this.

The only saving grace....the unit next to this one is expected to go up for sale soon. It's a bit larger and has a much better view. DH says he would be more interested in that one.

Of course if we buy anything my dreams of moving back to Florida are postponed for five more years.

OMG Pig Pen ! I love Church Street. I used to go to Burlington often when I lived in Quebec. Back when the dollar was good enough to make cross border shopping worth it Which I guess it almost is again. Have the Canadians started appearing again?

I loved everything about Burlington. The university town atmosphere, the historic buildings, the lake !

I know you would rather be in Florida, but you could be lots of worse places waiting it out.

It's just beautiful. DH and I lived in a loft near downtown Chicago before we had kids. We sold about 9 years ago but I still long for the wide open space that we had. I was able to walk to work (it was a bit of a hike) and the neighborhood still had an edge to it because it was undergoing renovation. Now, prices have more than tripled in the same building and I think of what our old unit would have been worth, but our existing home has even outpaced that so I guess we're doing OK. Good luck with whatever unit you decide to buy.
