Hi there.

I've heard issues before of people getting charged parking fees on their reservation when they didn't even have a car.

I am renting a car (Avis at Cabana Bay) for only 2 days of my 2 week stay. How do I ensure I only pay for 1 overnight of parking and/or are there any loopholes since it's an on-site rental?

Thanks!

Interesting question. My stay last month I spent nights at 3 different on-site hotels and during checkin they explicitly asked me at all three if I was parking a car. I don't know that renting from the on-site would Avis get you out of paying for 1 night. The only thing I can think of is to make sure they know that you are only parking for one night, and watch your bill. At which point in your trip are you renting? If it is later in your trip, perhaps don't request parking until you need it?

It's been a while, but I think at CBBR you have to use your card to get into the parking lot, so they will know you used it.

No loopholes. If you are parking at the hotel overnight for 2 nights, you will pay for 2 nights. Or if it's 2 days/1 night, then the one night. They can tell if you have parked by card swipes when entering the parking lot, as @georgina mentioned. I would stop at the front desk once you return the car to let them know, to make sure you are not charged for any additional nights. And then review your bill before check out. I am not sure if they have to enable your key to open the gate to the parking lot, so if they ask at check in if you have a car, tell them.

I would think you just need to contact the front desk and tell them on the nights when you are no longer parking there. I would be shocked if it was a big deal.

I've done this a bunch of times and, the short answer is yes, you have to pay for those nights. But the logistics are fairly easy.

After I pick up my rental car keys, I head over to the front desk, tell them that I'm going to have a rental car for the next x many nights, and they give me a new key card that is good for those nights. They recommend just keeping it in the car and, from what I understand, it works independently of the regular room keys.

This is a slightly different process than they used to have (they used to keep reissuing room keys with every change, which was confusing and a pain) and since then (knock wood) my experience has been that the parking charges are more accurate. But when I do this, I always make sure that my bill is correct before leaving the hotel. The one time that I needed to fix it after my stay was a major hassle.

Thanks for the replies!

I appreciate the been there done that experience. My previous CBBR stays have all been either no car or car for entire stay and I know the hassle of trying to fix incorrect charges.
