Anyone ever have a dermatofibroma?

Okay, first I have a doctor's appointment on the 25th, so ya don't need to tell me to see a doctor. :teeth:

Now, I have this bump on my lower leg. It's been there for a little more than a year. At first, I thought it was an ingrown hair, but it is still hanging around and has grown. It is kind of pink (a little darker than flesh-colored) with a small ring of darker skin around it. It is raised and firm, circular.

In my self-diagnosing that I always do before I go to see what I really have, it sounds like a dermatofibroma. Supposed to be benign and usually left untreated unless it causes pain or gets in the way of shaving.

It has gotten larger over the course of the past year (not huge). It probably started out as 2-3 mm and is now 4-5 mm. It does get nicked every time I shave and it is really irritated when my pants rub it and hurts.

So, I am wondering if anyone ever had this and if they ever had one removed. No matter what it does actually turn out to be, I think I will push to have it removed because it does cause some discomfort.

I had what the called an "epithelioma" on my leg in three spots. The dermatologist called them an over-reaction to some sort of trauma, like a mosquito bite. They froze them off -- nearly painless, just felt like someone had snapped me with a rubberband.

All healed now and no further problems.

Good! 'Cause I don't do pain too well!! :teeth:

No experience with this. My father-in-law and sisters in law all had neurofibromatosis. Is that the same thing?

No, that looks much more complex than my little bump. :)

That's good, Kristy. My fil was badly disfigured (ugly bumps all over his face and body) and so was one of my sil's, she also had scoliosis because of it.

Luckily, my dh was born free of the disease.

I hope this is something benign that can be easily and painlessly removed.
