Bone Density Test?

DH & I both got one day the other day.......................thankfully we both passed & are both in the low risk category. He passed with flying colours & is over & above what he needs to be, but that's only because he loves cheese.

I hate cheese & am not overly fond of yoghurt, but can stomach a little of it.:D

Anyway, I feel just shy of what ideally is the average, but I'm acceptable:D

So, I thought I'd put the question to all of you out there & see if any of you have had the same test & what the results were:)

It easy & painless & over in about 5 mins...:D

Just gotta take your shoe off & pop your foot in a machine & sit back & have fun:) :bounce: :Pinkbounc  :teeth:

Have a shower before you go like my DH did:teeth: :teeth:

He had to make sure his wouldn't pong once he took his sock off:cool:

It's really quite fun:cool: But a little costly:(

I dare to ask.. where exactly was this type of bone density test done????

btw.. lots of veggies have calcium, also Calcium is added to lots of juices and cereals available here. just a thought.

Do you mean where on the body, Mamajoan? I had one done about a month ago, and they tested my hips, spine, and legs. It doesn't take long and is completely painless.

Osteopenia was my diagnosis, but that's because of a parathyroid problem, not from lack of calcium intake. We're working towards correcting it.

A good test to consider having done. :)

Thanks for the info. Stay tough! Stay strong!!:D

My oldest had several as part of a study. It's painless.

I've had the the one where they scan from the hips down to the ankles a couple times, and the heel one once. The heel showed normal, but the body one showed quite a lot of thinning of the bones. I am in my mid 50's and never (even as a kid) drank milk. Dairy products are low on my list. I take supplements, and try to eat veggies that have calcium in it.

I had one just a few weeks ago. As part of some promotion, my doctor offered them for one day free. My mother has severe osteoporosis, so I took a day off from work and had one. Thankfully I was "very dense"-way thicker than average!

Yup - full body and my results were fine.. I have always loved milk and cheese so I think I have benefited from it over the years..

Never heard of a full body one. We only had a heel/foot one done.

What surprised me was the fact that calcium is not stored in the body. As I kid I drank milk like it was going out of fashion. Couldn't get enough of it, then when I was expecting I drank lots of milk too, so I just thought to myslef. No big deal I'll be right.

Then to find out that what I did all those years ago, has nothing to do with what the current reading is. It is a daily intake thing.

Oh well. Looks like I'll just have to try to up my calcium intake. Not fussed on taking tablets, so will have to get it from milk & other food products.:)
