Anyone ever get a surprise Castaway Cay day?

Our ship stops at Castaway Cay on a Monday, Nassau on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday sea days, and returns to Galveston on Friday. There are no ships at Castaway on Wednesday or Thursday. Is it even a remote possibility that they might surprise us with an extra Castaway day? It is the New Years cruise on the Wonder.

Not at all likely. Have a great cruise though. :sail:

What day and time does your cruise leave Galveston?

Cuz if I'm measuring right the sea distance from Galv to Castaway / Nassau is about 1000 nautical miles.

At an average speed of 20 knots 1000 miles is 50 hours .... you NEED two days to get back .... and I suspect you have two days up front getting there ....

leave Friday evening ...
two day transit to CC
day in CC
day in Nassau leaving in evening
two day transit to Galv
arrive Friday morning

?????

along the way to being Captain, I was Navigator! And the Captain should always be the best navigator on the ship ...

DCL charges a considerable premium for "Double Dip" cruises that visit CC twice, they wouldn't plan a surprise visit.

I was on a cruise that got an extra Castaway Cay day but all we needed to do was get back to Cape Canaveral the next day.

They did it to allow some extra maintenance that was easier to do when docked, not for our convenience. I was mildly disappointed because we missed our only sea day and this was my first cruise that had one.

We got an extra CC day in December 2006. The first Castaway Cay day was cold and rainy, and because no one was docking the next day captain put us back in. The second day was sunny and beautiful. Of course that was before the Dream and Fantasy so there were far fewer ships using the island. We sailed out of Port Canaveral. I agree with the PP that an extra day at Castaway Cay won't work since you've got to make it all the way back to Galveston.

Thanks for the replies. I think we will leave it as a "will not happen" and then for some completely random reason, if we do, great.

We got an unscheduled extra Castaway Cay day once. The Aqua Duck broke down so the captain announced we were going back to Castaway Cay the next day to make up for the inconvenience. Quite a few guests were upset that their Palo brunches were cancelled because it was no longer considered a sea day. DH and I were thrilled because we figure we can go to a nice brunch anywhere on land, but the only way we can get to CC is on a Disney cruise! They had the AD up and running by the time we left CC that second day.

We did in 2008. The cruise before our sailing missed their Castaway day due to the weather. They added an extra day on our cruise to do whatever work that needed to be done to the ship that was missed previously. Would love for that to happen again!

We were on that cruise! I was bummed about losing our brunch, but we were able to schedule the jet ski excursion that had been sold out on our regular day.

That doesn't seem fair that they would cancel brunch because their plans changed - especially since all the provisions were already on board. I could see giving people the option to cancel at no charge, but leave it for those who wanted to still go.

I believe it has to do with the fact that the Palo servers wind up working on Castaway Cay and are unavailable for brunch service.

Perhaps the Palo servers and cooks were needed on the island.

Ah, I forgot about that. It still really isn't fair IMHO.
