Next year we are flying United airline via Chicago. I think the usual 'via' is Washington, but has anyone any experience of Chicago O'Hare Airport...whats it like?? (huge probably)

And another thing, when we get to Chicago will we have to get our luggage and do customs and immigration there rather than Orlando.....I know it will save time on orlando if we do, but it seems a bit of a pain to do mid journey!!!!

Any info would be great.....

Hi, we have not flown united in to chigago but we have done american.
The airport is huge, so are the buildings when you are landing, feels like you are just above them.We are doing the AA one again next April. November we are going on a shared code flight it is United but the first plane is British Midland to Washington.
I am afraid you do need to do the custom thing when you first land in US. Hope this helps

When we flew with AA via Chicago in 2000,although you will have to go through customs etc your luggage will probably go straight onto your connecting flight without the need to collect at the baggage collection point.

One piece of advice, ask before you leave,we made the mistake of not doing and we ended up waiting at the collection point thinking our luggage had gone awol before we spoke too someone who told us it would go straight onto the connecting flight

We flew AA in O'Hare this summer and then onto Detroit.
Our experience was that we had to go through immigration, then collect our baggage and go through Customs, and then the bags were taken to the connecting flight.
it was quite a seamless procedure really.
