Anyone ever elect COBRA health insurance coverage?

The employer is required to give a departing employee COBRA rates and info by law, IIRC.

I understand that (and remember getting that stuff in the past when I've changed jobs), but I'm curious to know who she called and then got transferred to buy an individual plan. Perhaps we could follow a similar route and bypass some of the red tape.

Who did you call to ask about COBRA? Your employer? or your existing insurance company (BCBS)? Or an underwriter?

We called the number on our insurance card.

thanks. I may call as well and see if that may be the easier/quicker route to an individual plan.

Did you have to fill out any large applications? I've looked at some online and they went on and on and on. They wanted to know everything we've ever suffered from for the last 10 years, including dates, medications, etc. This even included things like ear infections. I don't know about you, but I haven't kept records of every illness for the last 10 weeks, let alone 10 years. :confused3

When you were transferred to another agent, did you end up with another Blue Cross individual policy or another company?

Well, not as long as any of the ones you've come across. It asked if we had any medical bills over 10k in the last 2 years. Then there was a part that asked if we had any of the following problems and it listed a bunch and if you checked yes, you had to list which member of the family when, what doctor, outcome etc. But nothing asked about small illness like ear infections.

Blue Cross its all Blue Cross. Now we just did this, we are still covered by our group coverage this month. But they sent us all the apps and stuff, so there doesn't seem to be any problems yet.
