We will be cruising to Nassau next July and we are thinking of taking the kids to the Pirate Museum and Dungeon tour. You are supposed to go to a castle and explore and then to the museum.

My DD and I love Pirates! pirate:

Someone in the office said their Mom did some dungeon tour in Nassau and they showed them torcher chambers and such.... :confused3 Don't think I would want to take the kiddo's to that type thing!

Thanks for any help! :wave2:

We went to the Pirate's museum on our own, not with a tour. So for us it was a self guided tour. We were greeted by a great pirate outside the museum, he was really funny. We paid $12 per adult, no kids this time.
We really enjoyed the museum, but younger kids might be a little bored.
First it is like a dark street along the waterfront. This shows what the houses were like along the water. You stroll by them, only takes a couple of minutes. there is a recording to listen to. Then there is a large replica of a pirate ship that you walk onto. It is well lit and as you stroll through it shows what live would of been like on a pirate ship. There are many plaques to read and a few recorded things to hear as you go through. Then there is a few windows to look through to pay tribute to female pirates. If you take the time to read it all, it's very interesting. Towards the end there are several glass cases that are filled with old weapons, swords, pistols, knives etc.. These are real, not replicas. Anyway we thought it was really good, I'm sure if you were on a tour they would tell you the information that we had to take the time to read.
Nothing too scary for kids, just dark at the beginning. When you exit there is a small courtyard with stocks for pictures which is fun too.
If you choose to do this on your own it's really easy to find. It's a large purple building . It is behind the straw market, 2 blocks up the street.
A easy place to walk to even with kids.

I went to the Pirate Museum and dungeon tour in 2003 with my (then) DD5 and DD2. They both loved it! We took a ton of pictures and they both want to go again if/when we ever get back to Nassau.

We were rather skeptical since we are Disney spoiled. Even Great America (a Paramount amusement park out here in CA) makes us long for the quality and "polish" on everything Disney. We were pleasantly surprised with the production quality at the Pirate Museum.

There is a small "show" that is dark and has some lighting effects and cannonfire which could be a tad scarey for small children. Honestly, Pirates of the Carribbean in WDW/DL is a LOT scarier. My 2-year old didn't even flinch. :)

This was a coincidence! :flower: My daughter and daughter-in law have been trying to decide on a Nassau excursion to take. The Dolphin encounter sounded nice but people say it's overpriced. I agree since I would be the one treating my family, 5 of them, and the price on top of the 4 night cruise is too much.

My daughter-in-law just sent me an email about the Nassau Pirates and Dungeons Tour. It can be walked to from the ship and is located near the straw market. The prices sound great and the tour looks like fun. It wouldn't take all day, and the 4,5, and 6 year old grandchildren could return to a pretty quiet ship.

This thread was the only one I've seen on here that mentioned it.

My sister and I took the 3 night Wonder Cruise and went on the Atlantis tour. It was great but would be a little tiring for 3 small children. The two of us plan on taking a taxi back this time and have some fun in the casino. :cool1:

That sounds like it would be great for my family too. DS 8 and DD 4 would love it. I was looking for something not to pricey that would get us off the boat for a little while. We are doing 3 day so I want to stay on the boat mainly. Where did you see the tour with the museum and castle. I haven't seen it on the Disney site?

I don't think it's offered through the DCL.

No, it's not offered through DCL, but it was quite nice. Not sure why Disney doesn't offer it through them, it may be just because it's meant for a more one-on-one experience. I don't think I'd want to walk through it with 20+ other tourists. It was nice just being our small group of 6.

It's a very short walk from the ship; I think someone said about 3 blocks and from memory that sounds about right. I don't think we even took the stroller for my 2 year old since we knew it would be impossible to get that through the straw market. We walked through the straw market on the way to the Pirate Museum and we even shopped in the museum gift shop for a little while. I think we were still back on board for lunch. :)

That really sounds like fun! pirate: Do you just walk over to the Pirate Museum and sign up for the tour? Is there a certain time? Would love some more info?? :rotfl:

My DH, DS (almost 5 at the time) and I went on this last Feb. It was kinda cool - way better than I expected it to be (Being spoiled by the Disney level of imagineering that I am)---An easy walk from the ship (10 minutes?) - there are no tour times - it's self-guided........There is a "Pirate" outside drumming up business (and he is quite funny!)- But for the most part, you can see how pirates lived, etc.....at your own pace - read all the signs, or not.......Take as long as you want...I think we were there about an hour.........Then we did some shopping and went back to the ship.......

I'd recommend it!

Did you HAVE to walk throught he straw market to get there? I'm dreading that. DS is autistic and I'm worried because I hear that market is so crowded. I don't know how he will react. But he loves pirates, so I think he'd enjoy the museum.

We didn't walk thru the straw market at all.....We walked up the main street of town (Bay street)...We got our directions from the girl who gave the "Shopping in Nassau" talk........It's not that hard to find ----It was something like - turn right on Bay street, go four blocks, turn left at Ben and Jerrys and up 2 short blocks.....The neighborhood you walk thru is fine ----

We chose to walk through the Straw Market on our way to the Pirate Museum. That was part of what we wanted to do in Nassau. You certainly don't have to, and the Straw Market is a block out of the way I believe. (Kinda hard to remember such details that far back.)

And yes, it was a pleasant walk to/from the Museum, even without the stroller for my DD2. :)
