We went to the Pirate's museum on our own, not with a tour. So for us it was a self guided tour. We were greeted by a great pirate outside the museum, he was really funny. We paid $12 per adult, no kids this time.
We really enjoyed the museum, but younger kids might be a little bored.
First it is like a dark street along the waterfront. This shows what the houses were like along the water. You stroll by them, only takes a couple of minutes. there is a recording to listen to. Then there is a large replica of a pirate ship that you walk onto. It is well lit and as you stroll through it shows what live would of been like on a pirate ship. There are many plaques to read and a few recorded things to hear as you go through. Then there is a few windows to look through to pay tribute to female pirates. If you take the time to read it all, it's very interesting. Towards the end there are several glass cases that are filled with old weapons, swords, pistols, knives etc.. These are real, not replicas. Anyway we thought it was really good, I'm sure if you were on a tour they would tell you the information that we had to take the time to read.
Nothing too scary for kids, just dark at the beginning. When you exit there is a small courtyard with stocks for pictures which is fun too.
If you choose to do this on your own it's really easy to find. It's a large purple building . It is behind the straw market, 2 blocks up the street.
A easy place to walk to even with kids.
