Just wondering if anyone here has ever (on the spur of the moment) walked into a WDW resort and booked a room for that day?

It can be done but you will pay rack rate.

Yes, we have, but to see if you can find a discount, just call CRO that same day and see before heading out to the resort you want to stay at. It might also be a good idea to call first to see if there is even a room for you there.

i have you can usually get the all stars music, i went in april and got it for 116 per day.

It won't always be at rack rate. Last April we arrived in Disney a day early with no reservation anywhere. We called to see about AKL and were told it was $280.00 for a savannah view room. My husband drove to the resort, I went up to the desk and told them we were checking into the WL the next day and paying $150.00 and if it were possible to get a SV room what would the cost be. They gave me the savannah view room for $150.00. This probably doesn't happen much, but it is worth a try if you are there anyway.

Thanks. That's what I was wondering about. Just in case we arrive a day early (we're driving, and you never really know how that's going to go) - I wanted to know what my chances were of booking an extra day at the last minute. I guess it's a roll of the dice.:D

Two years ago I walked into BC and asked about a rate. They suggested rack rate and I told them that I recently saw a special for 169.00/night. The desk clerk asked the manager who agreed to give the room at 169.00/night. I think the best you can get is in line with the deals you see on these boards but that rate does not appear to be immediately offered.

A friend of mine I helped book, the all star movies, drove down, and got in a day early (her 1st trip) and decided to try it! They went to ASM and said they where supposed to check in the next day with discount etc... and the clerk checked and had a room with there request ground floor, prefered room, and gave it to them! She lucked out! :D

MKY :D

This question reminds me of the first time I went to WDW in 1978. My mom, myself, my MIL and my DD went to the MK for the day, but did not have a hotel room for the evening yet. So we walked into City Hall on Main St. and asked if they had any rooms available for that night. The nice CM checked and said "Yes we have a room at the Polynesian for $73.00 per night".

We all looked at each other and said "Thanks, but that's just a little too expensive for us".

   If only I could get those rates now !!!!

We did- we called CRO on the way to the AKL and they had a rate of $119 a night (this was 2 weeks after 9/11) but she said to ask at the desk because sometimes they offer rates she can't. So I did go to the desk and asked nicely if they could beat $119- he said "You can't even get $119 our rooms start at $199 and that's the lowest we have"- the parking lot was nowhere near full and I asked if I could use his phone to call CRO back to book the room- he said "No." I had explained how we had spent 10 hours at another off -site resort trying to find a non-smoking room and my asthmatic son was now having trouble breathing- still "no." So I called CRO explained what a jerk he was and she was so apologetic (got the same CRO! :)) We ended up getting $119 a night and loved giving my good fortune to him as I told him I booked it. He still didn't believe me and said it could take up to 2 hours for the reservation to show in the computer- he was lying to me (another CM informed me) and refused to help us until he saw the reservation. I gave him the confirmation number the CRO gave me and he said that meant nothing. The other CM was a sweetheart and she must have been the one that upgraded us to Savannah at no charge- thank you CM!!! And I hope that other CM is bussing tables at Pizza Planet. But it can be done- but I would suggest booking through CRO about an hour in advance to make sure they can find your reservation- it only took 20 minutes for ours to show.
Good luck!
Tara

What do you say at the front desk to excuse your arrival at a WDW resort without a reservation? Saying nothing is the best option of course, but what fun is that? (This is *not* intended to make fun of any of the posts on this thread, it's just for fun.)

-- "This is our first trip here since 1973. We were only planning to stay for one day, but we noticed you have more stuff now".

-- "The Grand Floridian lost our reservation.";)

-- "We didn't know you had hotels here."

-- "We got off the Mears bus here by accident."

-- "We tried to find the campground, but we got lost."

-- "We made 38 PS's but forgot to reserve a room."
