I have....twice it has happened to me...

this past time at CR and would you believe it at concierge level.
we got into room, I noticed handicap shower, no daybed, went down the hall to concierge and ?? if I was in handicapped room..
she looked at me and said yes...we switch all the time...

I asked to be moved... and of course no rooms available...
they offered to put me on lower floor..
with no adjustment to the room

I asked why would I go to a lower floor and not be compensated.
I was also told that I could be put in a suite ...
but I would have to pay the higher rate..

we took handicapped room ..I was not happy, rest of family okay

will have to say, I later seen many families checking in with MK view and obviously not a handicapped room

I have AP and sometimes wonder if that is why I was assigned room

all in all great trip

but last trip got handicapped room as well in BWV

I don't like them

so beware
make sure you ask upfront

Yes, we got a handicap room at the Pop Century during our last stay. I didn't like the roll-in shower with no bathtub. I also didn't like that there wasn't a hair dryer - we had to call & ask housekeeping to bring us one. But the king bed was nice! And, there was a refrigerator too! :)

I was put in a handicap studio at BCV. The bathroom was very big and I liked the walk in shower just fine. The flip down seat gave me handy shelf space for shampoo, etc. The only thing that I didn't like was that there is no shelf space around the sink. I put the luggage rack by the sink, took out the solid shelf in the refrigerator and put it on the luggage rack to give me a a place to put things. Worked great. I only shower, hate a bath, so no tub didn't bother me at all.

We did on our honeymoon. They wanted to give us a nice room because we were on our honeymoon, but all they had was a handicap room. I think the only difference was the shower was HUGE!! We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside.

We just returned from WL and the same thing happened to us.

I have requested two rooms connecting. When I went to check in I was informed one room had a "walk-in" shower. I asked if it was a handicap room and was told, "Yes, that's all we have with a king bed." When I explained that I did not need a king bed, the CM said to check out the rooms and if I didn't like it, just return to the desk.

I had paid for a Woods view room, but was told at check in that I was upgraded to a courtyard view (which I knew was more money). We arrived at our first level room with a view of two bushes and a pathway with a lot of traffic. I was more disappointed in the view than I was in the handicap room. Especially since I had paid for a woods view and knew I then at least would have a chance of seeing the water parade.

I returned to the front desk and met with a different CM, I explained that I was told to return if I was not happy with the room. She explained to me that there were no other connecting rooms available until the next day. As I was only staying for 3 nights (having just spent 5 wonderful nights at OKW), I didn't want to spend a day without a room. I was told I would need to vacate the room by 11:00 and the new one would not be available until 3:00. Since we had planned a day at the pool, this wasn't going to work.

I asked if she could check availability at the Poly for connecting rooms and although she went through the door to the backroom -- she immediately came back and said, "Nothing on property available." I thanked her and said we would just stay put.

When I returned, I said to my husband that I couldn't help but think that if he had gone, we would have been moved. I felt that they just looked me as some spoiled woman who didn't like her room.

My husband went to the desk to see what he could do and explained that we really would rather have the Woods view we paid for then the upgraded courtyard view on the 1st floor where everyone who walked by could look in. Within minutes we were moved to the 6th floor -- connecting rooms -- with a view of the Magic Kingdom, the Contemporary, Fireworks and water parade.

I do believe that my husband had the magical touch :wizard: It just goes to show you that it depends on the CM that you meet. I can honestly say that I asked all of my questions politely and patiently. Unfortunately, I had no luck. But they found him two connecting rooms without any problem.

What happens if you are traveling with small children who cannot take a shower? If we got put in a handicapped room, our ds would be filthy all week? He's a baby and doesn't take showers. What would they do then? :confused3 Weird.

The values are just starting to get permanent hair dryers so this it is standard right now to have to call.

Like DisneyPoly, I got a handicapped accessible room at Wilderness Lodge. I guess I also got an upgrade - I was solo and paid rack rate for a standard. At check-in they gave me a handicapped king bed room with a woods view - a ground floor view of the otter pond directly next to a loading dock. I was not thrilled with the room, but I made do. The bathroom was huge - I could even store some of my luggage under the sink. The biggest problem (men look away now, women issue coming up!) is shaving the legs - much prefer a bathtub for that!!!!!!!!!!!

I 100% agree with DisneyPoly's view on CM's ignoring women and accomodating men. I sensed that many times. Human nature, unfortunately. :(

My inlaws were given an accessible room at AKL - it was great, because it was just the two of them in that room. We got the connecting room with a queen bed and bunks! It was like having our own little suite, as the accessible room had more open floor space, a flip out chair/bed and more room around the table. My kids spent more time in their grandparents' room than in ours.

What's the big deal?!?!

When I checked into WL I asked for a King room knowing they were all HKA and I got upgraded to a nice 1st floor courtyard view, a great room. So the area to hang your clothes is a little lower and the bathroom has a sliding door. I swear people find the strangest reasons to complain.

Doesn't anyone look for the positive in anything?? Those nice big showers have plenty of room for you and a friend. puckerup:  or two :love1:

We ask for handicap rooms if there is nothing else available. It doesn't bother us at all. They even say these rooms are actually used less which I like too! We always have to call mousekeeping whenever staying at Moderate or Value to have hairdryer sent to room. They only keep them in deluxe for some reason. :confused3

Also happened to us at our last WDW resort stay almost two years ago.
But I sure was not going to complain. It was August and I had a postcard code. I booked standard at the WL. And our rate was so good I figured on getting a room over the delivery area. :rotfl:
Without me asking, they upgraded us to courtyard view, but a handicapped room. :confused3
Like others, I was told at check-in that it was a roll in shower. I asked if was a handicapped room and was told Yes.
I liked it because it was so roomy!

I stayed in one at the BWI.. I thought it was great, the room was huge.

We got one when we stayed at the GF. I went to the desk and switched.

We went to the Wilderness Lodge this last trip (just for a place to crash our real vacation started the next day). I booked a standard room just to take advantage of EMH and be close to MK. Well, during check-in they gave us a complimentary upgrade from Standard to Courtyard View! We were excited, until our lovely CM told us it was a handicap room with no tub. DF and I looked at each other and quickly declined the upgrade. We told her we'll stick to standard as long as we can get a bathtub. Well, she looked into her computer and was able to find a courtyard view with a tub on the 4th floor :3dglasses

a little magic for us!

some of you ask what is the big deal? well when your paying $500 nite for a room and don't get a daybed which you wanted your son to sleep in, now that is a big deal. Now if I was only paying 1/3 that I wouldn't complain. But seeing how I wanted deluxe, booked far enough in advance, I should of gotten a regular room.

plus I hate the bottom of the showers in the HC rooms. hate the feel of the tile..it skeeves me.

What floor did you reserve?
