Anyone ever add someone to their room after booking?

Long story short, I had two rooms booked with my mother. She is unable to go now but the problem is my son was rooming with her. I know our room can fit 5 (it currently has 4 in it) and I want to add him to our room. Would I have to cancel both reservations and re-book with the 5 of us in one room? Our cruise isn't until May 2018 so I have plenty of time, I'm just worried about losing our current room since we love that room. Any help/advice would be appreciated!

When adding another person to a reservation DCL asks 3 questions:

1) Is there space in the room for another person? (can't put 5 people in a 4 person room).
2) Is there space in the lifeboat that room is assigned to? (a lifeboat can be filled, even if there are additional beds in your room).
3) Is there space in the applicable kids club?

If the answer is "no" to any of these, then the person cannot be added.

If the answer is "no" to #2, you may be able to add that person by changing rooms (to a lifeboat location that's not full yet).

Call DCL and ask. Or your TA will have to make the call, if you used one.

You would only be cancelling one room, and "changing" the other.

well the room we currently have is a family ocean room for up to 5 so I'm not sure how that info relates to the first 2 questions. My kids are 5, 4, and 2. I never knew that the kids clubs could fill up. The 5 year old was the one that was rooming with my mom and we had connecting identical rooms.

The family rooms can actually hold 3-5. You would need to check if your actual room sleeps 5. Sometimes a room can hold more people but they will not let you book it because the rooms at the same muster station are full and the station already has its limit.

There are more beds onboard than there is room in the lifeboats. This allows for more flexibility in bookings.

Yes, each club has a maximum number of kids allowed in. If a cruise fills up with, say, more 3-12 year olds than there is space in the club, you can't book a 3-12 year old on the cruise. This really won't apply in your case, as the child in question is already on the cruise.

Connecting rooms are more likely to be assigned to the same lifeboat, but it's not guaranteed. I know that adjoining rooms (next door to each other), even with linked reservations can be assigned to different lifeboats (been there).

I have a question with this as I've seen it mentioned numerous times. Aren't the lifeboat stations fixed? Or does the stateroom host occasionally have to change out the signage on the back of the door between cruises?

Sounds like.you just need to call your TA if using one or DCL.tomorrow. If one of the rooms you already have booked holds 5, I'm sure it's no big deal, since it's almost a year away, for them to change it for you. I'm betting since it's 11 months from now, none of the above concerns will come into play.

I don't know. I only know the lifeboat station is on the KTTW card. And, yes, I believe they are pretty firm (otherwise how would a thread showing muster stations be accurate?). But that doesn't mean that someone might pick two rooms that have different lifeboats. The cruise we had two different lifeboats (adjoining rooms/linked reservations) we were *GT so we had no control on the assignments.

I have had this exact situation and all I had to do, once I confirmed there was space for me to move my daughter to my room, I did that and then canceled my parent's room. I was able to keep the room and dining time I wanted. Hope this helps

I would like to piggyback with another question, as we may be in this exact same situation in a few months. If you do cancel the 2nd room and can't move the 5th person into room #1 (b/c the lifeboat is full) and need to change to a different 5 person room.... would your have to cancel and re-book at the new rates or will they just let you keep the rate of your original booking?

If you change rooms/categories on the same cruise you get the rates from the day you booked the cruise. You need to change the existing reservation - do not Cancel it.

Thank you I already emailed DCL asking them about this but I will call today. We have booked our room before and know that it sleeps 5. We just didn't bring the kids on that trip lol. Thank you everyone for the help!

I just wanted to say thanks so much for this thread. My college student has suddenly expressed a desire to come along, and it would mean changing a room that only has 3 beds to a room with 4 -- and the TA is out of office for several days so I couldn't just call to see if that would be a problem. From the sounds of things it probably won't be. I appreciate this board so much!

It depends, when is the cruise?

October 7. But TA who was supposedly out of the office just emailed me back already (wow!) to say she called DCL and it won't be a problem. There are 6 rooms near our existing rooms that will allow 4 instead of 3 and there's room in the lifeboats, so the change is easily made as long as we don't mind being a few doors further apart from the rest of our group. Hurray!

Also, be aware, the 4th person you're adding will pay the prevailing cost for a 4th person. Not the price they would paid had they been on the reservation in the first place.

I did wonder if that's why it was different. That makes sense. It went up $40, but I can live with that :)
