Okay, I need one more question answered....

I saw that you can book meal plans for your DL stay (such as 4 day and 5 day plans where you recieve meal vouchers.) I realize in the long run, it may end up costing more than paying out of pocket while you are there, but the prices actually seem somewhat reasonable to me. I am also one for convienence...I'd rather pay now and not worry about it on the trip.

Has anyone done this? Are the vouchers good anywhere or are there restrictions (not good at nicer restuarants for example and only good at counter service.) I called DL reservations and the agent said "I guess they'd be good anywhere." So I am not all that convinced by her unsure answer!

Any help would be great!

I haven't done it personally but I have known those who have and they thought it was worth it. :)

There are restrictions on what they can be used for, though. Depending upon which add-on you choose you get different vouchers included. The biggest restriction is that they are not valid at the Downtown Disney restaurants, only in the parks and at the resort hotels. They also do not give change back from a voucher and you can't use them for alcoholic beverages.

Hope that helps a little! :)

I just booked our trip yesterday, and we added on the 4 day plan, although we may change to the 5 day (2 girls who love to eat!!!). When you add it all up, it is a good deal, although the restrictions do make me a bit weary! My TA went over the details with me....the no change back is the only thing that really gets me though!

We'll give it a shot! I haven't been to Disneyland in years, so I am so excited to go!

2003 Disneyland Dining Plan
LAST UPDATE: 4/16/03 -

With the 2003 Disneyland Dining Plan, which can be added to any Disneyland package, you pay a flat rate per person and get a selection of pre-paid meals, plus vouchers for certain dollar amounts that can be used at most of the restaurants (including sit-down locations such as Blue Bayou), counter service locations and carts in the parks -- EXCEPT for Downtown Disney.

Depending on what and where you eat, this can result in some savings. Disney estimates a family of 4 can save up to $39.50 with the 8-Choice plan; up to $58.50 with the 10-Choice plan; up to $70 with the 13-Choice plan; and up to $101 with the 15-Choice plan. Click here to see what you get with each plan.

Disney recommends the 8-Choice plan for 3-day packages, the 10-Choice plan for 4-day packages, the 13-Choice plan for 5-day packages, and the 15-Choice plan for 6-day packages. However, you can buy any plan you want, regardless of the length of your package. Unless you are really big eaters, I would recommend going with fewer "choices" than Disney suggests.

Of course, you really only save if you eat ALL of the meals and snacks for which you are issued vouchers. Also, some of the restaurants that take the pre-paid meal vouchers have higher values than others.

If you decide to participate in the Disneyland Dining Plan, everyone in your party must purchase the plan. No refunds or change back on the vouchers. Vouchers may not be used for alcoholic beverages.

Interesting info reported by MouseSavers reader David S: "...the meal vouchers ($15, $10, and snack) can be combined, so the $5 snack vouchers do not only have to be used for snacks, they can be applied to meals as well." Good to know!

If you'd like to add the Disney Dining Plan to your reservation, ask your travel agent.

I think you will be very happy that you have the meal vouchers. We just returned from our trip and it was nice to have some meals payed for in advance. It's was just like having cash on hand. We used them everywhere inside the Disney parks and the Disneyland Hotel with no questions asked.

Here is my suggestion with the no change back issue. Let's say your meal is $12.50 give the cashier 2 $5 vouchers or 1 $10 vouchers and $2.50 cash. This way you will not lose any voucher money.

Here is what the back of the voucher says:

MEAL VOUCHER (specified amount listed here)

Accepted at any dining location, including outdoor carts, at Disney’s California Adventure Park, Disneyland Park, Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier Hotel, or Grand Californian Hotel. Not valid at Downtown Disney and at Resort Merchandise locations.

MAXIMUM VALUE (value listed here), INCLUDING TAX. MAY NOT BE REDEEMED FOR AND NO CHANGE WILL BE GIVEN. NOT VALID FOR ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES.

Thanks for all your help on this one! I was used to the WDW packages, so this one had me stumped. We will eat well, I have no doubt.....especially when I read that they have deep fried cheesecake and deep fried apple slices at the parks. Holy smokes, deep fried cheesecake!!! I feel the inches added to my waist already!!!!:p
