I guess summer technically ended July 24th when my wife went back to work but today is the first day of school with the kids back.

She will come home exhausted and within a week or two, if not sooner, will be sick. Rinse and repeat until about March.

My son is still home because his college classes don't start until mid August so I am not completely back to a non summer routine.

Two college kids now (freshman and 5th year), so still summer here until late August. Move in day for the freshman is the 24th, older son moves into his apartment sometime around that week as well. They both start classes on the 28th.

Wow, that's early. Our High schooler doesn't go back until... OK, honestly, I have no idea when she goes back but she knows and she is the responsible one. But, I think it is either the week before or the week after Labor Day... that's still the end of August, right?

I am a college professor so normally I'm still in summer mode for a couple weeks until I start my fall course preps. My academic year always begins on or immediately after Labour Day. This year however I am the chair of my academic Department so that work has already begun. I also co-own a business and spent much of the summer putting out fires on that end.

First day for HS classes is August 16. But, younger DD, a senior, has been having soccer practice since 2nd week in July.

DS, college sophomore, reports to his soccer practice on August 11, and classes start on August 21.

Oldest DD is a teacher and her first day of class is also the 16th. She's already been prepping the room.

Our son starts kindergarten next Wednesday. It's hard to believe not only that school is already starting back, but that he's old enough to go to kindergarten!

Mainly because of the absolute downpour of rain we have had for the past few days, and almost for full days. Not the best Summer. They say it gets better next week, but who knows.

I have a granddaughter who started school last week in Indianapolis and a grandson who will be starting school the day after Labor Day in the Detroit area. Quite a difference!

School started 8/1 in our county but they do get out 5/22. Was going through target this past weekend and there was an enormous crowd at the school supplies. Told my wife it sucks being old and closer to death but it beats not having to get in those crowds anymore. 8-)

Our local school opens Thurs after Labor Day. That’s typical. It never opens before Labor Day, and if the holiday is an early date they’ll just come in end of the week to get settled in.

I have one heading back to college on the 10th (rush), one the very end of august, and one who commutes the end of august. our vacation was a week ago so now just chilling.

We moved a son 1000 miles away 4th of July week. He started med school Monday.

Our college senior daughter was home for 2 weeks. Her 10 week internship 800 miles away ends Friday. She's driving straight to her college apartment 5 hours away.

We will go see our son mid August.

It's been a summer of odd transition to mostly empty nest.

Our 3 son's have moved most everything out now. Our daughter's room looks like she's coming home tonight. We've been cleaning out and deep cleaning 2 of the extra bedrooms this summer.

Dh and I are definitely now at the threshold of a new stage in life.

I had to remind myself that k-12 schools start on Friday, so we'll have to be aware of school traffic.

Definitely weird to not be tied to school schedules after 25 years of kids in school.

I can't believe how early some schools go back. When I was in school (back in the olden days) and even when my kids first started school it was always the Tuesday after Labor Day.
The "early" schools generally get out the end of May, if not sooner. As I understand it, the "late" schools go well in June. So it all equals out.

There's a lot of debate around this issue in the K-12 community, with many even advocating for shorter summer vacations so students don't lose as much material over the summer. Not sure where I fall on that argument but I do feel bad for my K-12 counterparts as I'm usually done by the first week in May and don't start back up again until September (on the flipside, Professors require much more education to get to their eventual employment destination and many of us work through the summer so there's that).

It's the middle of summer holidays here. Summer is July and August. School starts after Labour Day. School year here is always Tuesday after Labour Day (well that is usually PD day and kids start Wednesday) until June 30th unless it falls on like a Monday/Tuesday and then it would end on the last Friday.
