I know when I took the job there would be times that I would have to work the holidays but after 20+ years it's getting harder during Christmas. I have someone covering me for a few hours in the morning but still have to work the rest of my shift which is 24 hours.
On a bright note though once I'm off duty I have seven days off and next year my schedule has me off on Thanksgiving and Christmas. You can bet I'll be putting in for time off over Christmas and for being the senior man it's a guarantee I'll get it off.

I know how you feel. I'm a dietitan at a hospital and I have to work on Christmas day. I've work 8 out of the past 9 Christmas', I would rather have Christmas eve off as that is when my famy gets together.

I feel your pain. 15+ years LEO and im working Chrismas Eve and Christmas Day.

Thank you fireman17. I appreciate everything you (the firemen) do for my family!

My DH works in a casino and almost always works Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. This year his shift is 4am-noon but he got told yesterday that he can leave at 10 so we're happy about that. In the over 25 years I've known him, he's had 2 Thanksgivings and maybe 3 Christmas off.

My firefighter husband is also scheduled to work Christmas. He is scheduled for a 24 hour shift but took the evening portion off so he should be home sometime after 6 (unless he gets stuck on a call). He is senior man there and somebody offered to cover the morning but he deferred to someone else on the shift who has young children who still believe. He is scheduled for next year too, but he is also eligible to retire so it should be his last year working the holiday. I'm not saying he will take retirement yet, but I'm just saying there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Have a Merry Christmas and I hope it is a quiet day for you. :santa:

I'm a server at WDW so I'll be on Christmas day! I'm only there 10.30am-4.00pm so it's not too bad. I've never worked Christmas day before and I'll never have to again since I'm moving onto a new career where you don't work holidays, so I can manage it just this once! I have my santa hat all ready to be worn!

I can't imagine going to a casino for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Sounds depressing.

i have towork 24-12 from 3.45 pm until 9 pm 25-12 from 2.35 pm until 8 pm 26-12 from 7 am until 2.30 pm and 27-12 same as 26-12
the 26-12 is also a holiday here

I am a nurse at a hospital, and I will be working tomorrow and Christmas day, but I'm okay with it. :) I kind of expected that since I am a new nurse, and I had Thanksgiving off anyway.

I'm a paramedic. I am currently working day 3 of 8 in a row. I'm working 7am-9pm on Christmas day. Luckily my co-workers are also my friends. So, I look at it as spending the Holiday with friends. We're doing our family celebrations on the 29th and the 31st. So I get to celebrate Christmas 3 times!

DS works Christmas Day, Christmas eve,New Year's, and he worked Thanksgiving. He won't be home until January 18-meanwhile he works on Princess Cruise (Sapphire,I think the ship is). At least he's safe-it's the military I feel so bad for.

Yes. I work in a hospital lab and this is my year. I will be there 6a to 6p. Since my norm shift is fri sat sun I will be there all weekend. We are doing Christmas tomorrow.
