Anyone else wish they would stop allowing "walking a reservation" UPDATE POST#80

I'd hate having every change be a cancel and rebook. I often book an extra night at the end and/or beginning of my reservation so that I can get better airfare.

Rather than cancel and rebook, I would prefer a fee to make date changes. That would stop most if not all walking and still allow reasonable changes to the dates.

Personally, I do not consider walking to be a problem worth solving at this time. I agree with you that the proposed fixes are much worse than the problem.
I would rather see them implement strategic restrictions on changes than to be charged a fee for date changes (I would not like to see a precident for starting endless fees). All they would have to do is say if any part of your reservation is more than 11 months in the future, you can't make modifications--only cancel and rebook. Once your entire reservation is within 11 months--you can make as many modifications as you need.
I don't think walking is a major problem, either--except for certain room categories.

FWIW, I do not think most here agree that the waitlist should come ahead of reservation modifications.

Walking is only necessary in a very few cases and even with walking in those cases, no one is getting shut out of their home resort if they book at 11 months. They may not get a concierge value or standard villa, but there aren't enough of those for everyone who wants one to have one, anyway. Someone will always lose out.
My post was not meant to be popular but rather to express my personal philosophy on the subject. To me philosophy and principles are the prime issues where applicable and to me, they are in this situation. Simply from a practical matter, I think it is a problem they will have to address at some point but we'll see.

One thing is for certain, anytime you try to tweak things just for one issue such trying to come up with a fancy solution just for this problem, things rarely go well. That's why I feel it should be across the board, whatever they do or do not do. Those special circumstances are always what will drive the system.
