Anyone else stranded in the North East?

It's amazing how many people don't have whole house generators. Ours is hooked up to our natural gas supply and tests itself once a week. We were with out power here in Western Maryland for over a week during Sandy. Gennie was amazing. You won't regret it.

Actually, shouldn't be *too* amazing! Those *buggers* are *very* expensive. We have a large portable generator, and the house is wired to accept it for certain circuits. It works fine for us, and not *near* as expensive, even though whole house generators are very nice!

Ended up with more than 2 feet here in southern NH. When I went outside with all of the drifts, the lowest spot anywhere was 26", with high drifts over 5 feet. Good times......
At least there was a young entrepreneur going around with a bucket loader to help clear driveways, I happily employed him , now when the wind dies down a little later I'll go out and clean up a little more with the snow blower and shovel.
Hoping everyone has heat/power and gets down to see our favorite mouse. Luckily up here, despite the snow, the power has been a non-issue this storm.

The roads are clear in Westford MA, but we're still digging ourselves out! I hope they lift the driving ban so we can ski!

38 inches here in ct... No joke.. Drifts are 6-7 feet. We are literally stuck inside!! Power has stayed on --- awesome!!!! Just sitting around staying warm and planning for my trip for Mother's Day at pop!!

I wish you luck in getting out tomorrow. I have to admit, I think I'd have left early and gotten the heck out of dodge in front of the storm. But I'm a Southerner and 6" of snow cripple us, I can't fathom anything more. Heck, we got 3 inches last Saturday and we had to cancel our morning plans till they came by and salted our street. We don't leave our driveway with any white stuff on the road

To be honest with you, when we were in Tennessee last year, it looks like some of those driveways in the mountains have a steeper angle than a roller-coaster. I'm not sure I would head down them in a rainstorm never mind 6'" of snow..LOL .

Otherwise, Cape May has once again lucked out. We have lots of wind but no snow whatsoever. (Thankfully!). Hopefully everyone north of us stays safe and warm!.

North Shore of Long Island here. Our official total is 33.5 inches last I checked, and the drifts are definitely over my head (5'4"!). We Jane finally managed to get both cars dug out, and there is an official state of emergency, everyone MUST stay off the roads, so we're staying inside and I'm making more Mickey tie dye shirts! 84 days and counting down!

Lynn mass here,(northshore) they plowed the main roads but not the secondary ones so we are still snowed in. It has stopped snowing finally. We didn't lose power or have any flooding. There are some drifts that are five to six feet tall ( including the one at the end of my driveway) that god for all the boys I live with they can shovel and I will stay warm

central CT checking in here. We have 30" of snow. Took a few hours to clear our driveway with the snow blower. Also cleared out an elderly neighbor driveway. Travel ban is still in effect. DH is a police officer and assigned a double shift for tonight. Took him 2 hrs to drive a 35 min trip-- highways are a mess with stranded cars.

We aren't leaving for WDW till August but we have been stuck in WDW in '08 from Tropical Storm Fay. Our return Amtrak Autotrain was canceled due to the storm. It took us less than a minute to decide to stay than drive home. It has been our best trip we ever took. An 8 day trip turned into an 11 day trip. We moved from OKW (DVC) to CR- garden wing. We had AP's. It did take the CRO quite a while to find us a room to fit us (family of 5 plus 1 under 3). We wanted to stay in one room not connecting room. CRO also offered us the DDP but I didn't have the 6 months prep time to decide on where to eat so we just did OOP. I had the extra nights booked before we knew officially that our train was cancelled so CRO offered to waive the cancellation fees if we were able to get out. Even had a return trip booked on Amtrak 5 days later bf we knew we were cancelled. Despite all the rain we encountered on that trip it is truely the most talked about trip. We returned with just two days to spare bf school started. We would stay again if needed.

Over 4 feet!.. 2 feet from the snow, and another 2+ feet bc my house placed just right to catch all the snow drifts for our street!! ( one thing to keep in mind if we ever buy another house) :-(

My dad and DH have been digging us out for over 3 hours!!
I've been cooking nice warm soup for when they come back in...

Mid coast Maine here, with God only knows how much snow. (Last total I heard was 22", but that was several hours ago and it's been steadily snowing since.) Luckily I'm not trying to get out right now, but I am headed to WDW in just over a week. I hope you make it to The World safely and everything is okay at home! (And hoping this snow ends here soon! Time to go try and get out my door...)

This is what we have. Not automatic, but if the power goes out, we push a button to start the generator, switch off the main breaker and switch on the generator panel. It runs the water pump, fridge, furnace and a couple of lights and outlets - which I then plug my modem into so I can stay online and TV into so I can get the news.
Not as carefree as a whole house system, but certainly better than sitting in the dark waiting for your food to go bad, and thousands of dollars cheaper.

Best friend was slated to leave out of Providence for Disney yest at 3pm. 1st trip with 4 kids. She was able to change flight to Boston on Thursday afternoon and I drove them all to the airport.

So now she keeps texting me about how much fun they are having while we have 22 inches of snow and almost 24 hours of no heat/electricity!

We are scheduled to fly on Wednesday from Boston, but I told DH that if we didn't have power back by Sunday night, I was throwing DS in the car and leaving. I was not going to sit out the week freezing in the dark when I could be in Disney! But the power came back tonight, so we will wait to fly!

S.E. NH checking in and this was exactly the scenario that gives my wife a panic attack. However we leave in 13 days so no worries...I hope!!! 26" of light fluffy snow and now I'll take advantage of the many snowmobile trails.
