Anyone else refuse to buy a gas fueled car?

It's infuriating! :headache: When the heck are they gonna AGREE on an alternative fuel source for ALL vehicles?! :confused3 Don't give me that $$$ excuse either. I've had enough of that business. DH wants to get a new vehicle in the next couple of years and I told him not until they come out with an SUV that runs on ANYTHING other than gas. I don't care of it's batteries, solar power or friggin sunflower oil!!! JUST DO IT! I love my SUV and don't want to go back to a car, however, I won't continue to spend $50+ a week on gas!...(And I work from home!!!) What are YOUR thoughts on the subject and how have gas prices affected YOU? :listen:

:thanks:

I would love to find an E-85 filling station that is closer than 60 miles away from where I live. The fuel isn't any less expensive, but it would be an easy way for my family to cut our dependence on crude oil. Only it makes no sense for me to drive 120 miles roundtrip to do so. So much for alternatives.

What really upsets me is that the recently tore down and rebuilt a Marathon service (???) station right by where I work. The dug up the old tanks, leveled the old station, and built a brand new, shiny station with new pumps. Do they have E-85? Heck no. How much effort could it have been for them to plant one more tank (or have one less grade of gasoline) and to provide E-85 fuel?

I'm thinking it's a matter of establishing the infrastructure. Say buying a hydrogen-powered vehicle is an option? Where will you fuel it up? So of course you're not going to buy a vehicle you can't fuel up. And who's going to build fueling stations if nobody has the vehicles?

IMO something drastic has to happen. Our govt has to put up the funds to build an infrastructure that will support putting such vehicles on the road.

I'm with you though. Something has to be done. It's not just the money - it's the using up natural resources, reliance on foreign oil, bla bla bla. And we don't even live in a world where walking anywhere is even possible anymore. Seriously, we live spitting distance from our elem school, yet the kids ride the bus. But they can't walk, cause chances are they'd be killed crossing the "highway" that the road has become. A sidewalk and pedestrian bridge would save our district a couple buck on transportation, I would think...but no.

Ranting right with you!

I would like to have a flux capacater on my car, but I gotta get to work and nothing but regular ole run of the mill gas stations within 150 miles. Whatcha gonna do?

Doesn't that run on plutonium?

I'll stick with my good ol' dependable gas-guzzling car for now. Alternatives may be nice, but if you can't easily refuel your car, it becomes nothing more than a giant dirt-catcher/paperweight in the driveway.

Sad but unfortunately true. I guess that it is a good thing that the two flex fuel Dodge minivans that I own (or have owned) also run on gasoline.

I wish we could get E85 around here. When I am out of college, I am going to buy myself a new car (After I take my parents on a trip to WDW that is ;) ) and as much as that new Chrysler 300 Convertible sounds awesome, I think I would rather have a hybrid...

I was going to have a flux capacitor installed on my car but you have to pay the waste disposal fees up front and they were in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Plutonium disposal is such a bear! In the meantime, I am filling up at my local gas station. I have a hunch that my next car will burn gas too. ;)

I have a solution........but it won't ever happen and most probably won't agree with me.

The government needs to announce that in exactly 1 year the price of gas will go up to $5 a gallon MINIMUM.

If you want to see the car companies, politicians and the environmentalist work together and come up with an alternative fuel, they need to be FORCED to do so. Raising the gas price will force the issue. It will also force the consumer to get rid of their gas guzzlers and buy smaller vehicles. It will force those that are fortunate enough to live in places with good public transportation to use it. It will force the rest of the US that has lousy public transportation to get their act together and quickly put a system in place. It would make the country less dependent on gas. It would force people to walk, ride their bikes, car pool, etc. I would make sure that certain occupations (truckers, police, bus drivers) had a credit card that allowed them x amount of dollars a month of gas at $2 per gallon.

Like I said, I don't expect anyone to like it or agree with me but I don't see how we will ever rely less on gas if this country isn't forced into it.

My thoughts are that I'll continue to use a car that runs on gas. You better start getting used to walking because you might be waiting longer for you think for that car that runs on sunflower oil.
Have you considered a moped? :confused3 :moped: (they are fun to ride until your friends find out about them) :teeth:

That would make them win any election over here!!! Why?
Because gas already is $6 a gallon over here ;)

Wrong:
We already got lots of cars running on sunflower oil in Germany: With slight modifications all Diesel-engines can run on vegetable oil. MAny modern Diesels don't even need any modifications. We have lots of gasstations selling Bio-Diesel which is made 100% from plants.

I would love a hybrid, but we have another baby on the way, so my next vehicle purchase is going to be a Mini-van. Unless they make a mini-van hybrid anytime soon, it is going to be gas for me. The toyota one I am looking at has 29 mpg, not too bad.

Right... price controls have always worked in the past and there's never been any adverse effect on the economy. But why stop at $5/gallon? Let's shoot the moon and go for $10/gallon and accomplish the same results but in 1/2 the time!

We'll start relying less on gas when it runs out and not a moment before. Forcing the issue like this will only result in hyper-inflation -- not a great way to manage the economy if you are wanting to promote research and development of alternative fuel sources.

Fuel is not going to get cheaper -- it's nobody's fault that you are spending $50 a week on gas. You have an SUV but don't like paying $50 a week....sorry but you can't have your cake and eat it too! It's best to just cut down on your gas usage or buy a fuel efficient car if you are tired of paying for gasoline. Gasoline as a fuel is source is not going to go away overnight or for a LONG time.

For hydrogen powered cars --- wouldn't you just need water? Water is made up of hydrogen and oxygen....??

Fuel prices haven't affected me much. I take the bus and walk everywhere I need to go.

Yeah, because our economy is so great already?? I am not against gas. I am against our reliance on it. It isn't going to run out anytime soon and I am tired of waiting for it to run out before the problem is fixed. I don't like to be forced into anything, especially by our government. However, we have had the technology for years to make American cars more fuel efficient and we haven't and won't. It is pathetic that it isn't a priority in America and it won't be unless everyone is FORCED into it.

Well I have two places with E85 nearby. Unfortunately one is the Air Force Base and the other is the Space Center. The public does not have access to them. I would convert my car in a heartbeat.

Our gov't does? Since when was it the government"s responsibility to provide fueling stations?

Do you have any idea how much that would cost? Are you willing to pay out the wazoo for this in the form of higher taxes and fuel costs?
