Is a tranquilizer the same thing and like ativan or xanax? Because the one I took before did not have a steady effect. If we fly next year I'm gonna need to know what to ask for.![]()
NO. Xanax is an anti-anxiety drug not a tranq. When you take it (as directed and in the lowest dose tolerable) it should simply make you even-keeled. That is to say you simply won't give a darn about anything. Not excited/happy/scared/anxious...just, well, even. That said I have taken it in higher doses as prescribed for sleep issues (I wake up in the middle of the night with a full on panic/anxiety attack so I take it then to pull out of it or if I've had several bad nights in a row I will take it before bed to prevent the attack and to go to sleep...usually for that a .5mg dose. For flying I take a .25 dose).
I took Xanax on every flight I've done since 2001 (about 1 per year) and it's great. I usually take it as soon as I get to the gate at the terminal, or about 1/2 hour prior to the flight. Did great from NC to LAX and then LAX to Shanghai and then last year NC to Baltimore and then Baltimore to Shannon, Ireland and then from Shannon to Greece.
