Anyone else on "flyertalk"?

Max my miles, max my points, mileage runs BIS, hotels BIB? I travel alot and they have the best advice to max out on all things and get the best bang for your buck

I do not travel a lot, not nearly as much as I wish I could! I did visit flyertalk to see what they were saying about Jet America once, but that was all. There seemed to be several people who really knew what they were talking about....but then again, I'm a novice and wouldn't know the difference!

I've been lurking/posting on that sight for about 3 years now. Learned alot. Saved alot. Wish we knew about it a few years earlier. DH used to fly alot... I charge alot (for miles). Luckily we've been able to use the miles for all of our high $$ end trips (we're loyal to AAdvantage). Gone to Hawaii 3 years in a row on miles (for family of 4) at Xmas w/o using anymore miles that basic award. Learned how to churn miles to get DH and myself to lifetime Gold (though DH had been platinum for many years). We're still churning the CitiCards to get to lifetime platinum. A month ago we were able to get a discount award ticket for DS to go to Utah for a summer program. It gets addictive checking out the posts, though we haven't done any MRs yet.

It's fun Carolyn. It's the beauty of the beast (work) Rack up the miles and then don't pay for hotel or air ever. I guess I do since we own the corp but our vet got me started. If you buy materials every month and pay the whole bill each month, why not get the miles and points? He never pays to fly or stay. We do sometimes, depending on location.

I used to lurk on FlyerTalk and post once in awhile when I was doing heavy traveling for work (100k miles a year by air). I loved the perk of getting all of my personal travel free - hotels & airfare at least. I'm guilty of mileage runs to garner extra miles to up my status and I sure do miss those first class upgrades. Sigh...

Clara, I hear ya. the freebies come with a price but I still love it. Did a trip to WA last year in DEC just to put me over the top. Travel is down this year so I'll only end up with about 100,000 miles instead 150,00 but I got in 168 nights in hotels last year. only 100 so far this year. my kids use up my points though faster than i can earn them. I don't think they've ever paid to travel! LOL

I am not a road warrior but I still love flyertalk. Without flyertalk, I would probably never have made lifetime gold on AA and we will probably not be able to stay free at Sheratons for 7 out of the 9 nights we are at DL over the next 2 months. I also love the tech and luggage advice. -- Suzanne
