They explained that the technology used to operate it is out-of-date
and it would cost too much to replace that with new technology,
so they just won't be putting it up anymore.
My DW went on a behind the scenes tour (Yuletide Fantasy) Friday and was told the reason they didn't put the Mickey wreath up is because Disney is trying to "push" Frozen and de-emphasize Mickey. She was actually told this by a CM. Strange.

We have stayed at BLT the past 5 Thanksgivings. I know it was up by then last year (have photos) & can't remember it not being there on other trips. I was hoping they were just going to be late with it this year but given it is still not up as of today... SMH...
It's a joke. Robo is giving the supposed reason why they got rid of the Lights of Winter at Epcot a few years ago, not the Mickey wreath at the Contemporary, which is why the small print saying, "Oh, wait. That might be for something else."

My only thought is they must've damaged the wreath taking it down or in storage over the last year.
I don't think any of the other resorts altered their Christmas decorations (except for the Polynesian for obvious reasons) so I can't see it as a cost cutting measure either. I'm glad I got to see it last year (like the better Christmas decorations on main street) but disappointed as I planned on getting better photos of it this year.
So would I. I saw so many little things that were obviously cost-cutting measures that were disappointing. Each of them on their own might sound ridiculous to complain about but when you add them all up together it's sad.
Example - you know those chocolate martinis in the drink menu at every resort? I ordered one at Chef Mickeys one night. When they brought it, I asked where the chocolate stick was that they always had. They told me they don't have them anymore. Seriously? You charge extra for a foo-foo drink and then leave out the foo-foo?
