Anyone else NOT want a kitchen while on vacation?

When I was working I spent 10+ nights a month in hotels - predominantly 4 and 5 star hotels. I ate in restaurants and there really was no limit on my expense account.

For awhile I really did not like to travel on vacation at all - what another hotel and another restaurant?

I still prefer the condo type arrangements - more of a homey feel. I associate hotels too much with work.

I love being able to grab a soda, a piece of cheese and some fruit and call that dinner when I am too tired to go out and don't feel like staying dressed and waiting for room service. I also like being able to bring back my doggie bag for later.

I've never "cooked" on vacation, but I have snacked and warmed up food.

I did my first laundry last month with my first DVC stay and loved being able to wear my favorite shorts a second time.

I was talking to my DH's Grandma about staying at Disney and that we should all try and go together one year. I was talking about AKL and that in order to pack light we would do laundry half way through the trip and she was really excited about the fact that the resort had laundry facilities. She said " Wow I would rather you guys go off to the park and I would just stay at the resort and do all the laundry" She loves to do laundry she says that it's like a vacation to her that it's relaxing. I just thought that was a cute story to add into the topic.

Im with you...no kitchen! We do bring pop tarts to munch on, but thats it.
Up until our last trip I was dead set against doing laundry on vacation, however we went for 10 days, needed clothes for all season(we went in Dec), and we flew. Since we were somewhat limited to luggage space I decided I would do a load during the trip. Well I foundout it wasnt too bad and ended up doing 3 or 4. I might do 1 or 2 on our trips from now on, but I have no problem using the resorts laundry facilites. ;)

Would your Grandma like to go on vacation with me? I am always thrilled to know anyone who loves laundry. One of my saddest days was when a certain housekeeper left who loved to iron. She would happily iron for hours.

It depends on where I'm going. If we spend a week down the shore, it's much more fun to run to the seafood place or catch our own crabs and cook them up. And nice to be able to wash the sand out of our comfy clothes so we can wear them again!

Generally when we play tourist or go to WDW I like to be pampered, though. Although we did actually cook a steak dinner one night when we stayed at Ft. Wilderness in a cabin. It was pouring rain so we just relaxed inside that night, it was a nice break from all the running around.

She probably would. She loves it that much.

We own DVC and usually just get studios because all I need is a fridge for my Diet Dr. Pepper, about the only thing I cook while on vacation is microwave popcorn.

That was a main reason I didn't want to buy into DVC. Just didn't think it be worth the $ to me since I don't want a kitchen and w/d. I never do laundry on vacation. I may next trip to keep the luggage down if we fly.
If I had a kitchen I think I'd feel like I should cook and at WDW I don't want to to cook. It is a vacation from work, housework, grocery shopping, cooking and doing dishes for me. Sometimes I'll make the bed up for the maid and just ask for towels and garage pick-up. Having cleaned rooms as a kid at parents' motel, I know the maids love that little break! :)

Now, at the beach is different for me. I like to eat breakfast and lunch in room and dinner out.

Of course, it has been years since I have gone to the beach since I discovered WDW vacations!:p

For us a 1BR as a DVC owner is so worth it for the following reasons:

1. 18 holes of golf in the hot FL sun leads to sweaty, nasty DH - would rather wash that put that mess in the luggage!

2. You can really wash the chlorine out of your swimsuit...besides the only time I swim is at Disney and I only have one suit...I wash almost everynight as I consider a swimsuit akin to underwear!

3. I have a condition which causes, shall we say, digestive issues. I can not eat 3 park meals a day...we eat several dinner in a week and breakfast and my lunch if DH is golfing and I happen to be in the room...Dinner consists of pasta, sauce, salad or a frozen pizza.....not a lot of effort.....

4. it gives us two rooms...DH is night owl, I am early bird...I can get up and make coffee and not feel like I am trapped in bed...although sometiems that is fun too! puckerup:

I love having a kitchen and I never cook. I like to be able to easily make tea or sandwiches or whatever. And it's great to have a refrigerator to keep the drinks cold and a microwave to make popcorn.

I've never stayed anywhere that had a washer and dryer but it does sound great. I hate carrying lots of clothes from hotel to hotel.

I would have said the same before we became DVC owners. It is so nice to be able to have a quick snack. I don't think we've ever used the oven but do use the microwave and have cooked breakfast. It's nice to be able to bring leftovers back too :)

The w/d is a great when it is rainy, just throw the wet clothes in the wash. We've ended up doing a little laundry most of our trips.

Staying in a regular hotel room now seems very cramped.

I certainly don't want a full kitchen for our little piddly stays, but I can see where someone might. It would be nice to sleep in one morning and eat a waffle in your PJ's instead of having to put the clothes on and go downstairs to a food court or out to a restaurant. I often wish that WDW had micro-fridges in the room, because I NEVER finish dinner and it would be nice to reheat some lasagna for a midnight snack, like I do at home.

I'm with you. When I go on vacation I do not want to cook or clean or do laundry. I do enough of that at home. My brothers and sisters just went on a vacation to North Carolina and they had to cook, clean and buy all the food and the house cost them $13oo dollars a piece. For that money I want to be catered to.::yes::

I only get two weeks vacation per week. 10 days. For those ten days, I would like someone to make my bed, cook my meals and clean my hotel room. I want to be pampered to make up for all the rest of the days when I take care of my family and work hard for my clients.

(It's also the reason I don't go camping. Too much work!)

We get SICK of eating out after awhile, and yearn for something at home... I, too, am so much of a tightwad, that even though we may have budgeted for all meals out, I can not enjoy a meal knowing full well that it's a rip-off and we'd be happier and cheaper at home.

We LOVE making full breakfasts, and never get to do it at home... so we enjoy getting to sleep in, make a big breakfast, and enjoy the morning at the pool sometimes. I won't cook full meals or anything, but breakfast is nice =)

We also LOVE having a fridge and microwave, I'd be happy just with that. It's hard when you can't bring back leftovers and have to throw away food, or not be able to keep drinks cold (I hate drinks on ice).

We really don't use the W/D when we have those... just don't take the time to do it all.

I can see both sides =) While I choose to eat out at least 2 meals a day, we do enjoy the occasional full breakfast in the room. I can't imagine going on vacation and having to cook all meals each day, but to each his own! Some really enjoy cooking!

Vacation= Nice hotel, room service if I want, Full service restaurants available. I DO NOT want to cook. Don't want to do laundry either (but I have on a two week vacation).
I don't want my vacation to be like my every day life at home :)

Minnie Mi I agree completely.-no camping for this gal.

I like having a kitchen...not so much to cook in but for breakfast it's nice to have. We have 3 kids...none of us like big breakfasts but are cereal, toast, bagel, pastry type of eaters. Kitchen is nice for the fridge and cupboard space. I don't need a w/d, but when we had one in the room I made use of it....especially the dryer. We bring our own beach towels to use at the pool and there was no place to hang them all to dry, so they went in the dryer. It was also nice to come home with some of the clothes washed already.

I just like the space the bigger rooms give you.

A kitchen and washer/dryer are a necessity for me if I am staying more than a couple of days. I don't cook, but it is nice to have the kitchen for cold drinks, cereal (or other quick breakfast) and heating left overs. I am not hauling a weeks worth of dirty clothes home to wash if I don't have to, and you don't have to pack as much since you are able to wash and wear again. But $10K for how long? We have rented a beautiful villa for $300 /night. It has 7 bedrooms and a private pool, hot tub, pool table among other amenities, unless they are staying a very long time, $10k seems like a stretch.

I will not cook on vacation. I will not smuggle in kitchen appliances, barbeque grills or use the resort iron to make grilled cheese sandwiches. I will not use the coffee pot to make food, nor will I use the microwave at the food court to rustle up some dinner. I will not make my family share meals to save money, I will not reuse water bottles, nor will I pinch a penny until it bleeds. If we cannot afford to go and eat out we just will not go.
Do you visit often then dear?

I don't wanna cook on vacation either too.

We stay at OKW all the time on our vacations. I like having the convenience of a kitchen and a washer and dryer. The kitchen allows us to save a little cash by eating breakfast and dinner in the villa. We have a big sit down lunch in the parks and then have sandwiches or frozen pizza or something simple like that for dinner. I don't make anything bigger than bacon and eggs, though while there.

The washer and dryer allows us to pack less for travelling. It is not difficult for us to wash a small load of clothes every day; I start the load up when I wake up and it is ready to get in the dryer before we leave for the parks and then I fold them after we return for the night. I bring some of those dye magnet sheets so I don't have to separate clothes. I do this simple while vacationing. I also like to have clean clothes when I pack to come home; there is nothing worse than having to come home from WDW then to face a ton of laundry when I get home, too!

I would not spend that amount of money for my vacation, though. If I am going to spend $10,000 for accomodations, I will do concierege at AKL or GF and not worry about packing light. I would have all the luxuries those hotel offer with spas and turn down service, etc.!!!!!!
