Anyone else NOT want a kitchen while on vacation?

We like having a full kitchen. I don't cook on vacations, but DH does on occasion. He fixes all breakfasts, etc. He enjoys it, and being diabetic it is possible for him to eat a bit more appropriately while on vacation. Otherwise he tends to think..."I am on vacation...I can eat what I want!" I do the shopping, however!:)

With three boys, I have to bring twice the clothes if I don't have a washer! Mickey Bars NEVER make it into their mouths! This way I just toss them in at bedtime, dry them up, and they look decent for another 20 minutes!

As DVC members and WDW regulars we love our kitchen and laundry... I go to WDW for WDW fun. That doesn't mean I have to sacrifice the comforts of home... Kitchen/Laundry make the time in our room way more comfortable and enjoyable...

- Breakfast in your room. Hotels way over charge for b'fst. I'd go insane paying that much every day of my trip.
- Space. Way bigger rooms. You're not tripping over each other. You can move around, in the morning without waking everyone.
- Plenty of room for munchies', soda, beer, etc, bought at grocery store prices; full pot of coffee.
- People who enjoy cooking, can cookdinner. People who don't..don't.

Laundry.
- It's absolutely ZERO trouble throwing a load into the washer. It takes about 30 seconds...
- Having your favorite closes at the ready throughout your trip...priceless.
- No need to overpack.
- bathing suit always fresh and dry.

When I go on vacation I don't want to see a kitchen, washer or dryer. I want to get away from household chores while I'm away and I really enjoy eating out especially with all the different food choices in WDW. :D

As a DVC owner I can say that every trip to WDW will have a kitchen and W/D!! We would be lost without our kitchen and laundry facilities. We would not (and cannot handle) eat out 3 meals a day...especially Disney food. One maybe two meals out is fine with us. Breakfast in our room is a must. If we are out at lunch, then we grab something, but always end up back at the room for dinner. We are going on a 4 day trip to Mackinac Island and we are staying in a hotel with a fridge and microwave. I am sure we will get milk and snacks, but our meals will be eaten out. You cannot imagine the amount of money we have saved by eating our meals in our room!
As far as laundry...we only take a few days worth of clothes. No need to pack for the full duration of the trip. Plus, when y'all come home you have to do laundry! All we do is take our clothes from suitcase to the dresser. Ours are already cleaned. Y'all make it sound like we slave on vacation. What is the big deal about throwing in a load of laundry before leaving for the parks and tossing it in the dryer when you get back? I know there are quite a few other DVC members that feel the same way.

Count me in with you. Laundry is easy, it is not like you are beating clothes on a rock in a stream. Two lousy minutes, big whoop.
I like to cook, so, breakfast and some dinners is no big deal for me, there is a dishwasher, I don't have a problem loading the dishes in there.
But, watch out, here is a biggie, I EVEN MAKE THE BED every day.

I will not cook on vacation. I will not smuggle in kitchen appliances, barbeque grills or use the resort iron to make grilled cheese sandwiches. I will not use the coffee pot to make food, nor will I use the microwave at the food court to rustle up some dinner. I will not make my family share meals to save money, I will not reuse water bottles, nor will I pinch a penny until it bleeds. If we cannot afford to go and eat out we just will not go.

If that works for you, go for it. I can afford to eat out, I just prefer to eat in and cook what I eat. It works for me.

Well Gail, I am glad your plan works for you, just like mine works for me.

I wouldn't mind having a kitchen and W/D available just in case. I do want housekeeping services though.

That's how we are too. I don't consider having a kitchen a money saver, it's a luxury!

There was nothing nicer than sitting out on the balcony at OKW early in the morning eating breakfast in peace and quiet.

Btw, I believe the $10,000 the OP spoke of was for the entire trip, not just the room. Depending on where you stay and for how long, $10,000 isn't really all that much for the entire vacation.

You know, some people would think spending $300 on a single meal is just as crazy as making grilled cheese sandwiches with an iron.;)

Me too, I just don't worry about what others elect to do. If it makes them happy and they are within the guidelines, it makes me happy too.

Ah, yes OKW in the am. It is lovely!!!!!
LOL, well, I am considering Vic and Al's as a celebration for winning 5000.00 at the Casino, but, I would never consider using an iron to toast a cheese sandwich. LOL Different strokes. :)

I prefer vacation homes and condos because I am a picky eater and like to refrigerate and reheat my food most of the time. Breakfasts are fun when you can whip something up before going out and buying junk or spending too much at a buffet or whatever.

My son and I are on special diets, he's been off sugar for 2 years now and I don't eat dairy or sugar. I like being able to take our special foods on vacation. We only eat one meal out, dinner, so the kitchen works for us.

As for laundry, clean clothes travel lighter than dirty. I have to wash them eventually anyway!

I'm with snoopy on the  too! I spend less than $600 a week for my homes and condos everytime!

I like having a refrigerator. Forget the rest of it.
We recently took a 2 week vacation so we did need to do laundry once. I just threw it in the car, went to a big laundrymat so I could do 3 loads at one time and then into the big commercial dryer. An hour and it was done! Much better than playing with the little washers you are likely to find in these places anyway.

I'm so glad to hear about someone who actually won since I've never won a nickel. Congratulations. :)

Anyway, it's great to be able to spend our vacation time in anyway we want to. I would NEVER cook anything other than frozen pizza or something like that on vacation but if others want to (or want to eat at McD's every day or whatever), more power to them.

As we all know, spending "found" money is a completely different story. One should never do anything totally sensible with it!;)

Just to clarify....I've never tried the grilled cheese thing.... We don't come close to "cooking" unless we're in a DVC resort with a full kitchen.

Btw, congrats on your big win! The best I've ever done was a $500 win on $1 Wheel of Fortune!!! Maybe I need to give table games a chance....

Hey Peaches,
500.00 is not too shabby. By all means, learn Blackjack. Tons of fun.

Hey I'll kick my 2 cents in...

We only stay at Old Key West.... mostly because we have a big family and its most comfortable for us.

We eat breakfast in the room but I do not think the 2 times we have stayed there I ever turned on a stove. We use the fridge and coffee maker and microwave. We always have left over food from meals so its nice to save it for later.

Sitting on the balcony early in the morning is a real treat.

A washer/dryer is a must have for us with all the people! I throw in a load in the morning then throw it in the dryer at night when we get back. I dont have to pack as much and I dont have to go sit with my laundry somewhere other than my room.

The 2 bedroom we get allows everyone to have some space to go to and relax if need be.

I really enjoy having both the kitchen and the W/D. Our last trip to OKW, we used the kitchen more than ever before. We had a group of 8, and we ate frozen pizzas one night, spaghetti another, sandwiches for some lunches, etc. I'm sure we saved tons of money doing that. Plus, it was relaxing to eat in such a nice room, on the patio - overlooking the golf course...

But I would guess most DVCers feel happy to have the kitchen and W/D.
