Anyone else not eat Fast Food?

I don't think eating a grilled chicken caesar salad at Mcdonalds is all that bad for me. It is a mixture of lettuce, a grilled chicken breast, grape tomatoes and a small amount of parmesan cheese. I think the entire thing has like 250-300 calories. I don't use salad dressing or croutons. I order unsweetened iced tea to drink .

I like Panera, but there are plenty of unhealthy choices there too. It is all about making the right choices.

Okay, I just looked it up and a grilled chicken caesar salad is 220 calories and has 6 grams of fat.

McDonalds grilled chicken breast (included in the salads) may be low in calories, but look at these ingredients, definitely not healthy.
:scared1:
Grilled Chicken Breast Filet:
Chicken breast filets with rib meat, water, seasoning (salt, sugar, food starch-modified, maltodextrin, spices, dextrose, autolyzed yeast extract, hydrolyzed [corn
gluten, soy, wheat gluten] proteins, garlic powder, paprika, chicken fat, chicken broth, natural flavors (plant and animal source), caramel color, polysorbate 80,
xanthan gum, onion powder, extractives of paprika), modified potato starch, and sodium phosphates.

Oh, the DIS boards! Where everyone is debt free, perfect parents, and no one eats fast food! :rotfl:

Well, I do. Most of our meals are home made with fresh ingredients, but I'm not above a meal at McD's. There's also usually one day a month where DH and I look at the kitchen then at each other and agree that pizza is exactly what the day calls for. I always get my daily fruits and veggies, I exercise, and my diet is generally healthy. And maybe I'm in the DIS boards minority, but I even like fast food. I know it's bad for me, and that's why I don't eat it all that often, but I do enjoy it.

Am I banned forever from the boards now??

Ok, what are you eating at a sit-down restaurant that is healthier?

Just like with any foods, if you load foods up with sodium and sauces and such, they'll be unhealthy.

I've dealt with the chefs @ Disney for years, and they are really forthcoming about what is in their food.

I'm sure if people are eating the TS meals as is, or, sit down meals at chain restaurants, they are consuming just as much, or, perhaps more chemicals and fats then fast food. Substitutions and deletions have worked for me for years: no sauces/mayo/butter/creams, baked potatoes or steamed veggies instead of fries, water instead of pop, fruits for dessert instead of cakes and pies, just to name a few.

This is such an interesting thread, Tiger

Does Chinese take-out count as fast food? I know it is horrible for you with all the sodium and fat and yet we still order it just about every weekend.

Other than that I cook... and cook and cook. Seems like I'm always cooking. Or doing dishes.

So, for us it is home cooking or Chinese. Every once in a blue moon when I have had a horrible day and can't see a light at the end of the tunnel, we order pizza.

We had pizza for dinner today. :rotfl2:

I don't consider pizza fast food. I think like BK, Mickey D's and stuff like that is fast food. I love pizza! :)

Over the past few years our family rarely eats at fast food places. I realize that this is not the norm. So where are my peeps that also would prefer to eat at home over fast food???

Depends on what you consider fast food. Does pizza and gyros count? Most fast food actually disgusts me but there are some things I like. I love the chicken selects and friends from McDonalds, love Long John Silvers, and then of course pizza and gyro sandwiches are some of my loves. That being said, I try to eat these foods very, very, rarely. If I've been good for a couple weeks, I'll treat myself but if I do, I try to stay away from the fries as those are the real bad guys.

Fast food? Maybe once a year - if that..

Sit-down restaurants? Maybe once every couple of years - unless I'm on vacation out of state..

DD and her family get Chinese take out every now and then when I'm back there for the winter and I'll eat some fried rice, but that's about it..

I look at fast food or eating out as dollar signs - and I'd rather not use my $$ eating out.. I don't mind cooking - because I cook in "batches" - and freeze my meals.. I also love leftovers, so if there's not quite enough to freeze, I'll just add a little extra something to it the next day..:goodvibes

If you read the Disboards you would think that no one ever eats at fast food restaurants and yet they make a fortune. Everything in moderation is fine IMO.

I couldn't agree more!!

Ok, what are you eating at a sit-down restaurant that is healthier?

I've worked at McDonalds, Subway, and A&W. I also worked at a few sit down restaurants. The stuff they serve at McDonalds barely resembles food, it's all exceptionally processed, some showed up dehydrated, it is entirely different than the food that comes out of a kitchen at a sit down restaurant. Subway the meat smells so bad when you open the packets it almost makes you puke, I couldn't eat there for years after that summer. It's better than McDonalds but it's still really overly processed food...everything came in baggies ready to dump into the bins the customers see. A&W was probably the best best of the three for fresh food that actually was recognisable when it came off the truck, calorie count is terrible there though.

At the sit down restaurants they get actual chicken breasts, not some sort of reprocessed chicken reformed into the shape of a breast with grill marks put on with colouring (that was subway's trick). I remember the cook at one of the restaurants I worked at coming in twice a week to make the soup from scratch, this wasn't fine dining but just a local golf club's restaurant. The chain family restaurant was a step down again, the "chefs" spent most of their time weighing food than preparing it.

We tend to only eat at home d/t enjoying fresh, good quality, freshly cooked food prepared in a clean environment!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

When I was working we ate at fast food restaurants more than we do now. But for the past couple of years we have eaten more meals at home, and I truly enjoy cooking more now that I'm not working. We eat a fast food meal maybe once or twice a month. I rarely get a burger anymore though, since I'm intolerant of wheat.

We get Wendy's chicken salads sometimes. Other than that, we have sworn off fast food. Everyone in the family has lost a few pounds. Imagine that.

I have sworn off fast food and have actually gained weight. In fact I have gained more eating at home than when we ate out. Probably because I like to cook and find all of these yummy things to make.

Ok, what are you eating at a sit-down restaurant that is healthier?

An unprocessed, actual, chicken, with nothing added to it.

I don't eat at chain restaurants, so I am not familiar with what they serve, but there are a wealth of wonderful restaurants that serve local, sustainable food, and these are the places I choose to give my business to.

:rotfl: I love this! I eat fast food and I love it! Not everyday, but I guess I am one of the few that eat fast food and go to sit down resturants.
